Import Tax Slashed By 50%

Getting a VISA to Japan, for that matter to countries like UK or USA, Is not difficult if you can show that you are a respectable citizen here, with assets and life here, which you would not give up to pump petrol as an illegal citizen in these countries.

Perhaps the best way of arranging this forward is to post and form a group here first.

For example I will be the first in the group

  1. kaushama: Vehicle: AXIO or CIVIC 2007/2008

When there are sufficient numbers perhaps we could discuss and meet up to discuss how to proceed. Some people may have some contacts in japan, whom can help us.

This kind of group buying systems are very much common and popular in international forums.

We could perhaps lay down guidelines and find a trustworthy person whom can be sent to Japan.

I see this as the best way of defeating the unreasonable local car vendors. When it comes a common practice getting VISA would be easier too.

Obviously the first group will have a bit of problems and would have to do lots of research. But we could share the experiances with the members, in a sticky here like " Recon group buy thread". With the time it would be easier to do.

I have already got couple of friends who like to join such a group outside the forum.

Kaushama I may know someone who can help you. Send me a PM i'll get you the details.

Just need your thoughts guys. I was planning to buy a 2002 Peugeot 307 for 1.5mil but one of my friend told me that I can get down a 2007 Honda fit for that price.

But my thought is, when the duty is calculated, the duty will be calculated on the CIF price/the value given by the local valuer which are going to be different. For example, I contacted an online vendor who is willing to give an LA-GD1 for a CIF price of 6600USD.I calculated the duty, expecting it to be 120% as it is a 1300cc vehicle, and i didn't deduct the depreciation in case the local valuer's valuation is higher than the purchase price,it sums up to 14520USD. as in SLR with the clearance charges of Rs.30,000 without reducing the depreciation on the purchase price, it is almost 1.7mil.

My doubt is, will the duty be more than that if the local valuer gives his own values? and if it is going to be different, what is the expected local value of a 2007 Honda fit LA-GD1? it will be very much helpful for me if anyone can help with this as I cant wait to get my own car and these duty things have kept me confused for a very long time. If my calculation is wrong, please help me to calculate my total cost for this car valued at 6600USD(CIF).

Thanks in advance guys. :unsure::blink:

"i want to buy cr42 or kr 42 manual one . i like to buy cr 42 .but doesnt seem to be any price deduction yet after tax going down rolleyes.gif .am i right unsure.gif .my budget is 2 millions. dry.gif"

same here machang. Looking for a Townace Noah KR41/42 for around 2Mil mark. I need a Disel one and prefer manual. I have seen the prices of these come down recently from around 2.3 - 2.4 Mil to 2.1Mil. there are a couple of them in AL for 1.8Mil too and some 2000 models for 2.1Mil. Did you come across any good vehicles? I thought it might be better to buy a local one than importing one and going through all the hard work and extra cost. If you have any contacts please PM me :)

This is what I know;

First you will have to find out what the local agent (Stafford) will quote as FOB price for a brand new one of the same model. Multiply this by 0.75 (since it's a 2007 model) to take into account the depreciation. To this value, you have to add the cost of freight, Insurance and the valuation of accessories. Usually the freight and insurance costs should also be quoted by the agents and should be specifically applicable for the same model on the date of your importation or those applicable for a similar model if this model is now discontinued. You can now multiply this final value by 1.18 to get the tax component,

((Agent's FOB value * 0.75) + Freight + Insurance + valuation of accessories)*1.18

To get an approximate value you could perhaps take the freight+insurance+accessories value as around 3000USD ?

This what I have found out, so please double check before making decisions.

cheers!

Mate, also note that the age of the car for the purpose of calculating depreciation is taken as the period between the date of first registration and the date of shipment (B/L date). On this basis if it comes to between 2 and 3 yrs, then the depreciation factor will be 75%.

Good luck,

Cheers!

Great Idea... I'm in for the team...Any body in the forum who can coordinate this???????

If you see the stat of the Auction Prices of the Japanese used vehicle auctions you'll realize after 2nd week of June there are significant raise in the Axio, Vitz and Belta prices. If you see closely there were slight hike in Tiida Latio and Axela but not as much as Toyota vehicles.

Since now almost everyone who wanted to buy a good vehicle, but didn't do that as higher taxes self-imported or imported vehicles through dealers hear SL market gradually coming down to the saturation point. So Japanese auction prices will decrease by End of August. Yet due to appreciation of yen price reduction will not necessarily be reflected in Japanese markets.

If you can put up with the pain of getting LC, filling documents I think the best way is to self import the vehicle. You will certainly save at least 2lakhs.

Sir,

You had said the correct situation in Srilanka market and Japanese market by end of next month.

Lot of Chinese vehicles going to come with high quality improved versions very low cost than Japenese.

Import by your self from the web from a reputed exporter you will save as you had said.

Wijesinghe.

Going to come isn't the same as available right now. Tho of course if depends on how you define quality. If you think quality chocolates have Melanin, for example, then you get very high quality chocolates from China.

I checked with few who cleared ther cars (personnely imported) and the approximate prices they got are as follows. These vehicles were cleared about 2 weeks back.

Axio X grade white 2007- 3.3M+

Axio X grade Silver 2007 - 3.3M-

Axio G grade Beige 2007 - 3.6M+

Axio G Grade White 2008 - 3.8M-

But they say now the auction prices may be higher & hence price could be around 4M.

If any of you found any comparative prices for unreg at car sales pl share the details.

Yeah, now auction prices seem to be slightly high. However, I highly doubt Axio G Beige was available at 3.6 . G grades were on or above 4M most of the time. (I am talking about less than 40k milage cars)

i can confirm that those prices are about right. the axio x price that i know is for a car with 57k on the clock therefore tharaka's POV is true too. i know an axio G too that is being cleared during this week by a friend. i am not aware of too many details but the car costs 3.7 mil.

Please refer to the post i made in the 'Locally Buying Or Importing A Vehicle?' thread for the reason behind such price variances.
