Hi Guy,

I'm thinking of starting a Restoration project for a LR Series 2. I can find a a vehicle but my problem is whether I'll be able to find parts for the vehicle. My cousin told me that virtually no engine parts and body parts are available for LR Series 2. Plz advice me on this.

And also my pockets are not deep. So I the cost plays a bog role too.

Don't worry much about body parts / pannels - they can be fabricated locally using Aluminum - its simply mounted onto a steel frame

The engine parts i can't really say, but shouldn't be too much of an issue to track bits down as there are a number of places which import Land Rover bits

The cost or rather working on a tight budget may be the only concern

Thanks mate. Anyway it'll take at least abt 4 months more to start the work. Just want to do a background check...

Why don't you use a 12J? The engine used on older 110's and 90's

relatively cheaper and trouble free as far as I know

True that - i run a 12J myself

but the S II's would have come with an older 2.25 L 4 cyl unit

Same here.. on the 90.

quite a reliable engine from my experience, pulls well enough on a 90, though people complain about it in the 110s

I suggested that since he was having issues in finding parts for the original engine,

a decent 12J can be found as they are being replaced with tdi units all over..

Bang on

On a 110 with Power steering & Air Conditioning , getting upto an acceptable pace takes some doing (not to mention patience! )

As an engine all on itself its decent , but the ancillaries do have a way of taking "vacations" when ever they feel like it!!

A few visits to Rover Motors & Willy's should be able to source most parts - but if a specific part needs to be found, Colonial is stocked up the best - but one should be willing to shell out the premium

Ha ha Thanks Ripper but she is not really restored. I have got her running beautifully, and parked out in the garden , thats all. She is used regularly though, and we all love her.

Thanuskha - restoration is a very expensive business. But getting her done to useable condition is the first thing to do, and is not so expensive.

So get her running and then resto later. Enjoy the vehicle first.

By the way the engine is a 2.2 litre 4 cyl, and simple. Parts per se are generic and can be found.

Petrol engined landrovers are rare in SL and not many mechanics know them. But the agents are good.

All the best and let me know if I can help.

Cheers
