there are quite a few variations of this model including major 3 versions. Which series this car belongs to? And what's the original engine it came with? Fuel consumption varies from model to model but generally its on the better fuel consumption range.

What parts this car needs? For mechanical and some body parts like lights and stuff can be bought from panchikawatta. Subhasinghe motors, ideal automotive, L.N.D de silva motors, euro motors and dharshana motors are some key places you can search for parts. Do a price comparison as some places might quote absurd prices.

For some used body parts you can contact this number, 777779677, winro automobile. Had a good collection last time i visited and fair prices. If you need any more help either reply to this post or send me a pm

Sir,

There is a Auto electrical works opposite old Sherman de Silvas stores passing Technical College traffic lights towards Panchikawathe road who does coupling Japanese starter motors for any vehicle.

One other person in Moratuwa has a very big auto electrical unit repair shop you can try that person too does coupling jap motors for any vehicle.

I saw he had s stall in one of industrial exhibitions at BMICH.

COST WILL BE AROUND RUPEES 5000.00

You don't have a starter motor at all or is it not working?

If you intend to preserve the originality of the vehicle, it might be recomended that you try redo the coil and/or replace any other parts on the exisising motor.. Should cost somewhere in the 5k-7k range i presume.....

why don't you check around the numbers and places I gave on my reply. You would be able to find a used starter motor and other bits and pieces. However if it was me, I would've bought the starter motor because, usually Valeo electric items comes with 6 months warranty.

This certainly sounds like a very interesting project. I can imagine the satisfaction and that great feeling you will get once you get this beauty up and running. I have seen another 405 (plus many more nice vehicles) wrotting at Sethsiripaya Battaramulla for years now. At least if they auction them, like you there will be many people who will do justice to these forgotten machines. Please keep us updated with the progress of your project and wish you all the best.

Hello did you get your 405 up and running? Please share your experience with us.

Sorry for the long silence. After installing the new starter, the car started right up. It was so exciting especially because I expected the engine to be not running and needing internal parts etc... Well it saved me lot of money... Also as far as I can see there are no electrical issues either, just some rewiring..

These days we are working on the rack and the power steering which needs replacing though. I thought of putting in a Japanese rack and PS unit. What does everybody think? After that I need to put in a new exhaust as it needs from front to back...No issues there....then a new battery and it will be on the road !!!

After everything is done I will be getting the paint done...Any suggestions on the color?

That idea will probably lead to a lot more headaches further down the road. When it comes to euro cars the maxim to follow is: "do it right, or don't do it at all". You should be able to find the correct parts at a sensible price if you just be a bit patient. Dont take "maka baas" type short cuts man, will only come back to bite you in the A** later on.

Send harshan a PM, he'll help you out. Will look around myself and see.

Thanks Thanushka,

I spent Rs325,000 for the car from Police Garage. Police usually puts out a gazzette notification whenever there is a auction. You can find the gazzette at the post office or daily news web site...

Good luck
