Lancer Five Forward Gear Patten ?

Question

Posted

Hi All ,

I brought a old lancer flight light model (Year 1979). as for the previous owner said its a five forward gear box . but the gear shift patten is different than the normal other vehicle i have drive before . in this car rivers gear is in the second gear. and the 1st gear in the 3rd gear place. when i start drive first time i was bit confuse of the gear patten . and now I'm little use for that . but the problem is still i cant find the where the Fifth gear and the correct gear patten . because the gear liver have just Mitsubishi logo and it not Merck the gear patten .

if some one can tel me the correct gear patten and the some more detail abut this car it will be really help full for me .

Thanks :)

A relative of mine had a Hyundai Stellar which had a similar gear pattern, and the gearbox was a 4 speed. Reverse was engaged in the same way too. If it's a 4 speed that's the pattern you'll have to stick to. The gear lever centers on 1st and 2nd, as opposed to 3rd and 4th on a regular 5 speed.

That's the same gearbox and both stellar and Lancer "Box model" are on the same platform. I've used a Lancer A172 AKA Tube Light model and that too had this gear pattern. Never came across a 5 speed variant although I've heard those are there.

thats the issue i also have . I'm fine with all 4 gears . but i tried the 5th position in normal gear patten but it seems there is no such a gear in that. can it be a something wrong in the gear box or is it a 4 forward ? I think it is a Lancer A72 as i search on the web . its comes with the round head light . looks like smiler to this pic . but not a wagon

What he is asking you is - why cant you ask the previous owner? Tell him to demonstrate how the 5th gear works.

AFAIK - this is a 4 forward car.

The lancer box - has a 5 speed - but it doesn't have the above combination of gears. It has the normal 1-5 & [extreme right -->down] reverse.

How is the availability of parts for this car, And also does it have a factory fitted A/C. I have the station wagon version some of them them well maintained.I am also interested in a low budget car.Anyone can advice

HI, i'm unable to comment on the current availabilities of parts for this car - as we owned a Lancer box sometime ago.

But since this model & the box are still popular - i'm sure parts wont be a problem.

Also it should have an A/C.

FYI - the lancer box we had was a 13 sri & it was a "reconditioned" vehicle. Nowadays you don't get reconditioned vehicles - only 'as-it-is' vehicles. [now the reconditioning - i.e.- painting damaged areas/body work/small or big dents done in hurry to display asap in showrooms :)]

The 'reconditioned' lancer box- was a 4 forward with fog lamps & new grill & with alloys.

However there was a 5 forward lancer - which was 11 sri. This didn't have the alloys or the fog lamps etc.. These vehicle had been brought down as 'brand new'.

logically it should be like this and just check whether it's towards 3rd position with a push.

Do you have a 4G12 engine on it ? If so would you help me out with the last mention problem in this thread ?

And by the way what is the fuel consumption of your car ?
