Hi All,

I recently found out my car registration book states Duplicate in the notes section. I am trying to sell my car and buyers refuse to buy because of this. Does anyone know what is the solution and concequences of this?

Thanks

I too had the same issue, a remedial action, try to get a computer prinout from RMV and c

whether the Duplicate CR No and the computer printout Last CR No are identical, if it is so ok. and

also if possible get hold of a peon a check the car file in the RMV to c whether any police report is available

But its very difficult to convience the buyers sometimes. i have heard of many irregularities taking

place with originals being used for tampered vehicles and same duplicate CR used for the original vehicle.

But honestly what happens if a book is genuinely destroyed or misplace, hard luck for the owner

HI. I also faced the same situtation few months back.I also had a Toyota Corona. That Car book was also a duplicate one. But I couldnt check it when I bought it. After some times I transfered it to my name & that time only I realized that the book was duplicate. Anyhow I transferred it to my name. Few months back I wanted to sell it & so many people come to see it but they refused it becose of the registration book is ad uplicate one. But after few months I was able to sell it but i couldnt sell it for someone but for a very low price.

well that happened to me with one of my bikes.

i bought it recon and after registering it with RMV they lost my reg book. Had a real hard with them refusing to admit their flaw and issue me another one.

I met the comissioner too with no joy and finally went to the cops. That too got me nothing but a duplicate reg book.

From what i heard from the RMV folks and also others who into buying-selling business...this whole duplicate book thing only becomes a problem if you try to do a same day transfer of a vehicle. Or else it pretty much the same as the original.

But try telling that to some of our retarded car buying public :)

I had a civil engineer chap who was interested in buying my car a while back only to backout later. His reason was that since a certain insurance company had owned my car sometime back (6years with the said insurance company) it must be a condemned vehicle :) In his logic, insurance companies can't own vehicles other than ones that are condemned :D :D

Such is the IQ of our car buying public here...

Hi,

Thanks for the responses! Looks like I am in a bid damn trouble :( Is it possible for me to get a letter from RMV to convince the buyers that this is clean??

Thanks

there is no solution to this. main issue is that cars wiht this book cannot be transferred in 1 day. it takes the usual process of a month. (if you want 1 day service, it will cost you about 10k under the table)

apart from that people say that leasing companies will not lease these cars. again thats not true, they will lease the car after checking on the book.

This happened to you, with one day transfer service or the normal one? Freaky

Why is it called a "book" when it's just a sheet of paper?

it was actually a book few decades ago.then RMV changed that to the current sheet. but people still call it a book.

like (most) fish buns... decades ago they used to have fish, now it's just potatoes but we still call it a fish-bun :P

no machang...that was with the first registration. I never got my original reg documents and rmv chaps have lost it within their office cos it was supposed to be mailed to under registered post and that never happened. According to their documents the book never left their office.

Thanks to their mistake i got a duplicate

I managed to sell my car to someone who understand the situation, and luckyly I had taken a loan from HSBC for this car. So he was convinced. Anyway I will definetly check this agian when I am buying a car after what I went through. Blaming others we also have to do the same.....

if i was in ur shoes i wud nevr opt for a duplicate book! i wud file a lawsuit to get the original one! never suffer for sumbdy elses mistake bro!!! besides, a vehicle with a duplicate CR goes for a lower price in the market and most ppl just dont like to even buy it.

Doesnt make any sense, by the time the law suit is over ripper would have already moved onto another vehicle. some law suits run even longer than 10 years

Hi Guys,

I have a small doubt. suppose you buy a car with duplicate R/C. When you transfer it to your name, the new R/C also states duplicate or original?

Yes the duplicate is forever inherited.I cant understand what implications are caused other than the fact that the transer of ownership taking 21 working days.People are very reluctant to buy duplicate CR vehicles and better not buy because re-sale is really a problem.

sorry to bumping this old topic

i found a ep91 starlet (301-xxxx) for 14 laks ..the price is good and the car runs very smooth and all, no problems with the car but the only problem is that the original book is missing and the owner has a duplicate one. will it be a problem when i resell it ? i think the reason this car is selling at such a price is because of the duplicate book, all other 301- starlets are going for 1.6m+

i read all the replies in this thread but since its almost 2 years late thats why im asking again. thanks for any feedback

You need to ask that question from a soothsayer.

What is your need? buying a car to use or buying a car to make a buck? If it's the latter, then don't go for it. If I am looking for a car to use for a few years, I don't mind having a duplicate book.

To use bro, our family already has 1 car, we're looking to buy another car for everyday use. im just concerned when the day comes to sell this car if it will be a big problem because of the duplicate book..

I had a car with a duplicate book. an old corona I was the sixth owner and the original was lost by the third owner. He had made a written complaint and request for a duplicate one and that letter was in the RMV vehicle file. only problem I had, I was unable to get it transferred to my name under one day service - got it done through normal service with out any issue. I was able to sell it without trouble after 1 year.

But in general selling will be difficult with the duplicate than with the original.

Is there any way that a Duplicate can be removed or turned back to a original?

Yes you have to find the original registration. I once paid a deposit to a car and the owner at the time of the sale mentioned that the original CR was lost. To me i didn't mind at all as the car was mint and it was the genuine owner of the car. ( Was a DR). After that i went ahead and paid a deposit and told them that i will pay in full once the New CR (Duplicate) was issued. When the Dr went to RMV to apply for a NEW CR they checked their records and has told that they haven't sent the Original CR in the first place, and immediately printed a new one. I was told by the owner of the car that many people came to see the vehicle but people were reluctant to buy cos the CR would be a duplicate. She also gave it to me about 150,000 less than the what the car was worth at the time. To be honest I had no issues with the book being duplicate. In the end i was really lucky to end up getting the Original CR as well as the car at a great price.
