Ok guys please give this a try.

Your task is to buy a used car (any make and model) and turn it into a street legal, part time racer (for drags).

What car would you buy and why? (please indicate how much you would spend)

What mechanical mods will you do and why? (indicate spending)

What cosmetic mods will you do and why? (indicate spending)

Here is the catch :-

To buy the car and to do the mods the funds available to you is......USD20,000 (for those living in SL) and USD 10,000 (for those living in the rest of the world).

I will post my extreem makeover later.

Hmmm.... thats a lot of money

I dont think this car will be track legal in SL but what the hell..

The car: 1992 Honda CRX: $7500-$8000

The mods: Engine swap to B16A5 (With gearbox,axles etc) $4000-with labor and maybe add some ITR on top of that..

Custom ECU $500

Type R Pistons and Cam's $1000 (not 100% sure of this price)

Custom exhaust, headers & intake system $250

Engine head work labour $100

Toda ITB $3000 (maybe detuned for street)

Suspension upgrade- Say Koni shocks & coilovers (used) $400

Tires:Potenza G3's $500

NOS kit: $500?

Cosmetic:New paint job A nice rich multi court 2k black maybe $400 (to dodge the cops)

New heads(from Fuzzo ) $200 (to help a brother!)

Sun roof if it aint got one $250 (got to work on my tan)

Used Recaro's $300 (love being in the hot seat)

ICE $750 (to listen to the news )

New dash and dials etc.

The remaining $500-$1000 will be spet on labor & other replaceable parts..

Damn when I re-read this list I can think of a million more things..

thanks man.. there must be tones more that you can do with a 2mil budget- for that price you could do stuff like EVO3/Sti3 conversions as well. (which has been already done over here) but there are some Guys in this forum who've indeed done the real deal- they are sure to come fw. in the next few days..

well I would buy a exi civic for about $8000

slamm in a DOHC V-tec for $2000 with labor

turbo n blow off - $1000 with labor

Body-Kit - $1000 with painting

Exhaust, Neon's, Corbon Spoiler, leather interior, f1 steering, gear knob, dash ( yup pimp ma ride cause this is for street racing ) - $1000 with labor

umm what else... man I still got money left....

oh oh... OZ white 15" rims with potenza's 205x15x50 ..umm lets say $1000

oh yeah... lamps for both front and rear $350

well what else.... I think that's about it... the rest I'll spend it onmyself.... he he

Sheeesh I missed the rims.. I'd throw in the the same "15- but 2nd hand paint e'm white to clash well with the black paint. Since its a drag car.. I'm not sure- but aint nos a better bet that the turbo?

Well, here's mine ... kinda close to my current project except for a few stuff. I'm quoting a lot higher than the actual prices for some. Buying used on most parts will reduce the cost dramatically!!!

Get cheap '94+ F-body (Camaro or Firbird) ... approx $4000 (some can be had for way less with a busted engine)

408cu.in. short block ... $4000

Ported heads/valve springs/rockers/etc. ... $2500

Modified Wiring Harness/PCM ... $500

Built TH-400 trans and torque convertor ... $2500

Torque arm setup (to make up for the trans change) ... $450

Fully built 12 Bolt rear axle ... $2500

Full drag coilover suspension kit and sway bars ... $1000

F&R wheels and tires for the drag strip ... $1000

Nitrous kit ... $750

Full roll cage ... $1500

Total ... $19950

I think I have some left over for fuel and a nitrous bottle fill-up Ofcourse, I'll be stripping the car down to get it as light as possible so I can probably sell some stuff too

This setup is pretty capable of a 9 second 1/4 mile pass

bloody hel.. you are soundproofing your car to drown out the stereo sound from the inside so it cannot be heard outside or the sound from the outside so it cannot be heard inside??

Sound proofing is being done to perfectly isolate the sound coming out of the speakers and keep out the road noise. You can't go SQ unless this is done, most Jap cars come with crap insulation unlike the Euro cars which have a nice solid thud when you close the door, due to this if you plan on running a premium system then you need to first strip the car down and soundproof the puppy.

oh.. i d forgotten that you wanted to get the quality to the tops.. lolz.. to drown out the engine sound i saw in a auto show that a Lotus model uses reversed sound waves to cancel out the sound from the outside.. if your is gonna be such a system, it's going to cost loads!

Sorry folks I do not know about the money I will have to spend on the vehicle. But hey this is what I'll do.

Car: Ford Escort Mark1 $ 1500/= (thats what I'm selling mine for) it will be a 1300GT

Lets see what I'll do.

Firstly High lift cam,

Webber Carbs $ 500

K& N 57i Performance Injection Kits $120

Close ratio 5 speed gearbox change the final drive.

Uprated brakes + uprated suspension

Power Steering.

Turbo kit.

Interior of course I will put in a pioneer sound system worth about $300 plus normal Pioneer speakers (wont be fitting a amp or subwoofer to save on weight cos the car itself will weigh a lot).

WIll fir a turbo boost gauge cos I'm putting a turbo kit.

Interior will be stripped out. with little carpeting.

Tyres will be Yokohama A021R 13" with Compomotive ML 13" alloys. ($ 520)

Thats about sums it up. But sure to be below the given $20,000 limit.

Yep thats what is there. Dont have much cash to go for that cos a normal 1300 pulsar will be around 700,000/= so where can I get a GTiR when there are only a handful in Sri Lanka. But hey thats the dream car.
