I heard from a some what reliable source that Excise duty (XID) part of the vehicle tax (which is currently at about 17%) is going to shoot up to 35% ??

Think before june it was over 50% and was brought down by a huge margine and vehicle imports shot up drastically. Govt might be thinking to find their so called "profit maximising" tax rate by putting it up again ??

Anyone got similar news ??

These are cheap rumors spread by people who wanted their allions, axios, beltas, deltas and what not to be pushed sold. I have heard this story ever since the tax reduction took place.

Why worry when the budget is taken up in the near future.

And so are the classifieds.

If you don't mind can you tell who this reliable source is ?????????

If he or she has leaked out budget proposals, then mate he or she is in serious trouble, and so are you ....

You got it from the Central Bank. You say this source is reliable. But yet, you feel you should ask about it from here? Sounds like you have doubts about how reliable this guy actually is if you need to double check.

I mean, you heard there is gonna be an increase. Your not gonna benefit by waiting unless it comes down some more. It will either stay the same or go up. You are going to buy, so one would assume you have the money ready. So why are you wasting time chatting on forums instead of hustling to find a vehicle?

I even went a ahead and sked the question for the op. Tha answer was. "outlook not so good."

Heck! I got the same thing!

I too heard a rumour from my reliable contacts at the treasury. They are going to increase SSID tax to 39%.and the STFU100 to 55%,but the good news though is that clearing vehicles that have the Benadryl certification from the CSU at the time of exportation will have their BBS charge cut by half.

According to at the rate that the yen is appreciating the humble rupee can't hold on much longer.

I think the gov will increase the tax to reduce unnecessary imports.

And the roads also can't stand this much cars

We might as well drown in rivers of vitz's belta's axio's allion's :D

Ow Nooo!!!

There goes all my hope of buying an Axio G grade now I have to settle for a X grade. What detrimental effects could this have on my acceptability levels in society? dang it!

And actually i too think the F-tax is a great idea. Revenue can be increased by making people get an annual inspection done for "rear" emission. But the million dollar question is what they are going to do with people who fail the test? Rigorous imprisonment for 6 months may be?

Well, I guess my chances of getting down a ZERO Mileage 2012 Axio WTF Grade with Kumbuk Interior and wrought Iron door handles and Wanker Mirrors and ThalluStart with Ice Cream Scoop light is also zero... :(

Damn the Yen!

The Treasury has amended the circular relating to vehicle imports, enabling more MPs to import vehicles for their personal use under duty concessions, government sources said today.

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs had issued permits to only 69 members before the circular was amended. There have been numerous requests from MPs to amend this circular.

An MP can purchase a vehicle up to US$ 50,000 under this facility from the international market by paying only 18 per cent of the import duties. The Bank of Ceylon provides a loan of Rs.5,0 00,000 to each member for this purpose.

The government has amended this circular so that MPs can import vehicles before prices soar further in Japan due to the appreciation of the Yen. (KB)
