Dont use water use good radiator coolent.

Edit: this is not the reason for water level change  . But water is not good in long run.

Yes. That's the correct way.

Leave for couple of rides and checked the level again. if the water level is not reducing noticeably I think it is normal.

Dude, I dunno about the civic, but there should be a marking on the reserve tank marked with a max level you should fill the water/coolant only upto that mark.

If the water level goes down after a single drive, then you probably have a leaky radiator.

no leake in the radiator, not single drive,if i drive long only this should happen

That would mean that you have a really small leak that you would only notice the change after the radiator has been pressurized for a sufficient amount of time. For a short drive you probably wouldn't see a difference as it would not leak that much.

It generally takes a few days of normal running for the water level to go down. If it happens after one long drive or if the level goes down quicker than usual, than I'm afraid you have a leak somewhere.

before we all start thinking "leak leak" lets step back a bit.. maybe there wasnt enough water in the radiator and the cooling system and hence the extra water that was put into the reserve tank has now flown into the system, hence DONE WHAT IT WAS MEANT TO... Was the reserve tank empty when you filled it up? if so, your question is answered

So, fill up your reserve tank again and see if it does down again.

Personally, I think it might be slightly damaged cap. A short drive wouldn't heat the water and create enough pressure to leak from the cap, but a long drive would.

Yes water could evaporate through a tiny hole or a hair crack in the system or through the cap. Once I had the same problem in my ek3 and agent has found a very very small leak at the hose connection and they traced it while engine was running.

Hmm if the reserve tank level was within Max and Min and the radiator was also topped up, recommend you re do the process and run few times and see.caution -monitor the temp level during runs.

If the level still goes down noticeably and not settling down within operating limits (Between Min and Max) , check for visual evidence of leaks. Then change the radiator cap and see.You may swap with your best buddies radiator cap and do a run during lunch break n see.Caution again when trying to open caps when temp is high.

If the level still goes down, there ends the DIY period. sad.gif Take the car to a qualified technician and do a pressure test and see.Anyways your case is not a big issue. smile.gif

Dear Miniace,

thanks for the advice,i several time check up like this.in reserve take i always maintain the levels, but not pulled by radiator, when i drive and check up the radiator in radiator coolent level is drooped.no leaks in radiator.

when i ask the technician ,they told me clean the radiator & want to check again.is it correct.

thanks.

I had the same issue about a month back. Did what miniace suggested. In short distance nothing happens. But when I was stuck in traffic and using A/C the temperature goes up. I issue was coolant not going back to radiator from reservoir tank. And observed reservoir tank getting over flowed. Changed the radiator cap and problem solved.

Also check the radiator fan. If it does not work heat and pressure will build up faster and any micro leaks will tend to leak more and also get bigger over time.

i fully check up with a radiator,no micro leaks, the fan is working continually

Well check whether the fan is working at the full speed. Usually with time and friction build up the fan tends to slow.
