Honda Ek3 Brand New Vs Recon

Hi

Finally i Brought Honda Civic EXi. imported as a Brand new in 1998.

I have found few things on this car

1. There is no Oxygen sensor - I was asked the agent said brand new model dose not have that and it got 3 way catalytic converter

2. No ABS and Air bag

Do you have any idea of this? why it dose not have those options? Have they not ordered ?

abs and airbag can be optional...even things like power mirrors are not available on basic trim cars. so chances are that the car came without those options.

the odd one is not having an O2 sensor...assuming this is an EFI car...it's highly unlikely and EFI system working without 02 sensors

ABS and aibags can be optional omissions...

but all sixth generation civics (ek's) had EFI. be it vtec or non vtec, sohc or dohc. they were all efi. which means you have to have an o2 sensor. there are two sensors, bank 1 and bank 2. 1 is over the cat, and 2 is in the intake. the input from both these are necessary for the efi to function. if either one is broken or missing, it will work as a loop and give a preset default o2 intake/output reading. in short, you'll lose a lot in fuel efficiency. in the true sense of the word, as in it won't give more gas when you step on it, or put less gas when you amble along in traffic. but if they are missing/broken, your engine check light should be on.

better get that checked at the agents and replaced. checking at agents with their machines will cost around 1,500. the sensors are around 5500 from panchikawatte. the agents will want 30,000 each to replace.

Thanks for your comments, yes, my car got one sensor for intake . thats call map sensor. no Lamda sensor.how ever i spoke to Agents and they said it is true that they have not ordered 98 model with O2 sensor coz that time emmission controll was not in Sri lanka, and nothing to worry about it. also i checked with my Repair men and he said this got 3 stage catalytic converter.

right... i see... so as long as your emissions aren't gonna bother the guys in green, i think you're sorted.
