  1. Nice effort I guess, but the result doesn't capture the grace and beauty of the original. I don't get it.. if someone is going to do a replica why not do it right.. why go so far and fail at the details. If it was me, and I had money, time, and a garage at my disposal, I would have restored that corolla to its original state. THAT would have been cooler. Why mangle a corolla to make it look like a lesser car?
  2. Guys.. do we have to do an emissions test to renew road licence?
  3. Maybe the design was based on one
  4. here you go: http://www.pakin.org/complaint This is very useful. Reminds me of a good friend of mine who had an inbult RBG (Random Bullshit Generator)
  5. Interesting. Anyone else have actual fuel consumption figures for starlets? How's the performance of starlets? Normal ones, turbos ones etc
  6. You could consider getting the agent to inspect the vehicle.. e.g. if buying a toyota, take it to toyota lanka or get a reputed garage to inspect it edit: donno if this option is available in SL.. can experts here advice? I'd say its worth to spend a few thousand and get a vehicle inspected before buying than spend thousands after repairing it..
  7. Do Alto's really get that sort of fuel efficiency? Can hardly believe a car getting 17-18km/l in sl driving conditions. anyone here have any experience with these cars? whats the real world fuel economy you get? I test drove an alto, it was quite OK to drive with bearable performance. Not fast, but bearable to keep up and overtake tuk tuks etc..
  8. Well it should hit 200 before the end of the year, probably 250 Unless there's a sudden shift in world politics, or opec releases a few trillion barrels. I don't think OPEC will do that. I mean, would you?
  9. Dude, try not to think about these things. Our nation has been screwed, its just getting even more screwed, thats all. Don't blame the leaders, they are only as good as the people who elected them. To solve the problems here would require a paradigm shift in the way people think. basically, Sri Lankans will have to take responsibility for the problems instead of blaming others. Not only that, they will have to learn to think - and solve their problems using reason, logic and sense, without outsourcing these problems to corrupt clueless uneducated people. Since that won't happen in our lifetime, its best if we try to find something like oil. After all, take the saudis. They are not the brightest people on earth but they can afford to be stupid, and to throw money at problems they encounter, with the hope that eventually, statistically, they will reach a solution. Our people try that too, but sadly the money is lacking, ergo the present situation. Well, you have two choices as I see it. Either shrug, laugh, and say to yourself "Just another day in SL", or continue to fight the system and fail. It's like when a bus driver decides to overtake. Not even Moses himself can stop the bus driver. So might as well give way and let them do it. The time has come here, when the living envy the dead
  10. Can you tell me more about your experience withthe car? How was performance? How was the interior? suspension? soundproofing? etc.
  11. Are they actual hybrids? actually, colombo would be excellent for hybrids, as most of our driving is slow stop start driving. actual electric vehicles would also be a good idea too. Wonder what govt taxation policies exist for hybrids..
  12. Dude, its not a case of 'looking down' on a product.. more like not wanting people to die violent, terrible, and preventable deaths. From the crash tests I've seen so far, virtually all chinese made vehicles are terrible deathtraps. I hope Sri Lankans who buy these vehicles are aware of these facts, but somehow I doubt that. I guess this will be darwinism in a way. Indian vehicles are (AFAIK) pretty good, crash test wise (most of them) are based on old japanese designs.. and they do crash testing in India.
  13. Even if it does arrive here, with tax and all, it will probably be around 550 - 750k

  15. Thank you for the helpful reply!! have you owned/used one (if I may ask) Since I'd be buying used, can I assume the vehicle has already suffered depreciation and I'd be able to sell at a reasonable price? Also, Im curious to know why this brand has a bad reputation.. Is it just a perception or do they have problems?
  16. I'm considering buying a used Hyundai.. say 1999 - 2003 anyone have any experience with these vehicles? I'm interested in knowing: Performance (what engine options are available in SL market) fuel economy reliability ability to obtain parts overall observations on the vehicle: would you recommend buying this car generally, vs a Japanese one.. any thoughts? thanks!
  17. No, they need the poor to vote for them. Actually, the high fuel costs are a reflection of world crude prices. True, they could sell gasoline at about 60 a liter, if they dropped profits and tax but where would be the fun in that. When fuel hits $200/barrel later this year, things will be even more interesting AFAIK its around 135+ now..
  18. (Please don't laugh) can you tell me where that junction is? (road)
  19. Does he have a specific workshop there? If so can you tell me where is it located?
  20. Does he have a specific workshop there? If so can you tell me where is it located?
  21. Hi Guys Was wondering if you guys could consider giving a list of popular garages/people for various types of car work I know this is common knowledge but it would help me and perhaps other users who aren't familiar with locations in SL (if any exist) I'm asking this because I hear a lot of people mentioned (e.g. carburettor banda, zakie, etc) and I have no idea where these people are located ps: if this is against forum rules please accept my apologies and ignore this question.

    Affordable Paint Job

Thanks for your reply. If you dont mind me asking (and its ok by forum rules) can you name me some actual places and give a rough idea of locations (as Im not too familiar with addresses here) I'm looking to sell the car.. doesn't need major work just a little filling here and there and a simple paint job,, would appreciate any advice
  23. Hi Guys does anyone have any recommended places for an engine tune up? Also.. where is carburettor banda? (pardon the stupid question) but I hear that guy mentioned and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where he is located?
  24. Pardon the question but what vehicle do you drive? Redlining your engine could lead to excessive wear, even possible damage.
