Nissan FB15. my co worker's one supposedly does about 12kmpl in colombo, manual tranny though

toyota ae100, ae110- my sprinter does 10-12 in colombo and 15+ on open roads

I've heard toyota solunas also doing very well with fuel... and also the 121's... most VVTI's do pretty well in fuel anyways

I think all of these cars are pretty reliable and have decent second hand value too

Heard Honda Aria is good on fuel and does arround 14KMPL in city. When compared with an Alto n stuff Aria is a much better car.

Dear Velocity hav 2 say I'm touched by ur "Signature". I hope every1 in S.L. thinks like that.

Suzuki-Maruti Alto LXI does 16-17 Km per litre in city limits and around 18 Km/L long distance.

This guy is asking about a Reliable car with a Second hand market.

Maruthi is not in that catagory!

dont have any idea about the market values of these cars to comment on the resale value thingy, but i know many people who are using Altos and normal maruti 800s, and none of them ever complained about them breaking down. All those cars have done above 100,000kms...

even i havent heard of a maruti being unreliable.. just that its not very fun to drive... but gets 18kmpl, and with petrol prices goign up like this i'm sure they'll retain good value with time

Do Alto's really get that sort of fuel efficiency? Can hardly believe a car getting 17-18km/l in sl driving conditions.

anyone here have any experience with these cars? whats the real world fuel economy you get?

I test drove an alto, it was quite OK to drive with bearable performance. Not fast, but bearable to keep up and overtake tuk tuks etc..

Does any one know the Fuel Consumption of the Following Models.

Nissan March - 97-98

Kelisa Perodua 2004

Corolla 121 2003-2004

One of my friends had a March same year 300-xxxx. According the model doesnt do much. It did 10kmpl he said 1 year back. Its a manual, dont have hands on about the other two.

Kelissa is the most economical out of these. Also consider the Toyota Duet (Ugly car of course) The engine is almost the same as the Kellisa. Both these vehicle are known to give around 15kmpl in city and 18kmpl+ on highway. Forget the March. That engine is not econimical at all.

If you're considering something bigger I think the Corolla will be a good pick too. But full consumption will be more than the above two.

Else you can consider a diesel Corolla 1999 or similar.

As in life everything has it's compromizations. As an example Alto & Maruti are very reliable, less fuel consumption and can acquire a brand new car in an affordable price and easy to maintain.

But these cars are obviously not giving much of all other joys such as quick acceleration (since engine is just 800 CC) and more comfort while driving compared to Japanese (rather more in European ones), since the purpose of these cars(from design) are not those (this is what most of the people doesn't understand it seems). These are commuter vehicles and not targeted to give all the luxuries.

The basic thing should have to understand is, again COMPROMIZATION! Here it is Luxury Vs Economy which are mutually destructive factors.

checked with a buddy in office who owns one year old alto...it's properly broken in and with AC on it only touches on 17kmpl on open roads... he's not too sure about colombo driving figures though...

My biggest problem with these cars is that there isn't that much of space in them... it's not at all comfortable to do longer trips...

once went in an alto to seeduwa from colombo and man that distance felt a lot longer in that car

Maruti is not an unreliable car and also has good resale value these days. Just check out the prices of the few Altos in AL classified. Only problem is its not comfortable as Japanese and the lack of room. If you are a tiny person then its a good buy.

How's the performance of starlets? Normal ones, turbos ones etc

I drive a 2004 Kelisa manual (1000cc) and it averages about 14 in complete city driving with AC. On long trips it does over 18. Ride is not bad and the driving feel is great. A great car to rip through traffic and its my daily driver. Only recons and used ones are availble now. But still great.

We do have a 2003 corolla auto (1500cc) and it averages about 11.5 in complete city driving with AC. On Long trips it has returned in the ranges of 16 and 17. Its a very comfortable and silent car. Sometimes i just switch off the radio, sit back and enjoy the silence when i'm on baseline road.

As I know the low fuel consumption is a native characteristic of K11 marches. Specially the K11 march 1000cc auto is really famous for very low fuel consumption figures like around 10kmpl. As Priya had told, I believe his friend's car is a 1.3 liter manual because one of my friends also told me his 1.3L march also does around 10kmpl in town though it is manual. It is unbelievable.
