machang, that's an amazing sales pitch. I am sold!! Post some pics and put the car for sale on the AL Sale Section.
-
Well, for arguments sake, 2000/2001 for all the models.
-
Hey guys... between the LR Freelander, X Trail and the Pajero IO which is the better vehicle in terms of performance, reliability and user friendliness?
-
yes, that's the one in the gold can... good stuff... It is called Edge.. not PowerEdge as i mentioned before. Definite improvement from Valvoline. But mind you, Valvoline is also very good.
-
I used Valvoline Fully Synthetic from Motor kade for the last 2 years. Had no issues with my P11. Last service, Mk was out of Valvoline so on a whim switched to Castrol PowerEdge at Pit Sotp . Noticed a few differences from get go. Engine is running a bit smoother and quieter. And not that much of a big hit to the wallet as one would imagine. Rs.800 more than the Valvoline. But seem to be a superior blend. Definitely would stick to Castrol from now on. Mobil 1 is prohibitive expensive in my opinion, though to many it is the best money can buy.

Don, sorry about that mix up... ) That was meant to Madz!! Cheers While on the thread.....anyone considered a P11 Primera to be added to this list? Just my two cents here....

I overhauled my instrument cluster completely over the weekend. Had a problem with the RPM meter and went and bought a whole new (used) instrument cluster for only 2500 from Nugegoda. (Nissan P11). Replaced the broken RPM meter with the new working one and cannibalized the rest. Kept the original speedometer and wiped clean the reverse side of the meter facias (***CAREFULLY ***). Replace old faded bulb covers with new ones, wiped the needles (***CAREFULLY***) with cotton tipped buds. There was a lot of traffic film, soot from the bulbs and dust, careful wiping got rid of them all. Did i Say that you have to be CAREFUL?? Did the same for the AC controls. Now everything is as GOOD AS NEW!!! Bright as the day it may have looked when it rolled off the factory. Word of caution though...Unless you know what you are doing, pulling out the meter board is not recommended...

Buddy no offense... But I think you will mess up your car by trying to squeeze out too much kmpls... 121s are better left to the Agent to muck about with. They are built to last but if you tinker with them too much without knowing what you are doing, you will end up with a hefty repair bill. There is no magic formula to increase your fuel economy. Just sensible driving, keeping your air filter clean, tires at their recommended pressure and regular servicing and maintenance (preferably by someone who knows what they are doing) will give you better fuel economy than any thing else. The 121 is basically a pump and go car... use it as such.

a 1.3 litre engine does not guarantee a low fuel consumption. Remember that small engine is pulling the same car that is powered by 1-5/1.6 and 1.8 engine cars. To expect high kmpls on a 1300cc is a mistake. 9 City and 12 outstation seems right, even for a 1000cc Nissan K11 March. Your accelerator/rpm issue is confusing. Unless you engaged the clutch and coasted in neutral the RPM wont drop. If you are doing 75kmph @ 2500rpm. it sounds right for a normal car. What are you expecting? Faster the wheels turn the slower the engine runs? The engine tries to maintain the matching revs for the specific speed. In an auto when you let go of the gas, the oil pressure drops and the car goes in to a 'engine breaking' situation where it tries to slow down the car as fast as it can, unlike a manual. hence you see the revs drop real fast. Autos and Manuals are Apples and Oranges. Different in their won ways and must be treated in their own ways. But then I could be totally wrong!!!

Machang... try looking for a AC compressor for a P11! Took me 2 weeks and a lot of driving around with no AC till I found the Only one in Nugegoda, the Nissan shop in Nawinna. Not sure how the scene now is this was last year.... but sometimes the most obvious models have some pretty strange part shortages! Either all p11 had a AC compressor failure during that time or sometimes parts for common cars are not as common as we want to believe. Ripper and I had a time looking for parts for his car. Though it was a Corolla/Sprinter. Parts were not cheap too! So one can imagine how it must be for cars that are not seen much on the road.
-
Yep, I agree with you... the front suspension on my P11 cost 75k to replace! An Audi replacement would have cost the same... thinking about upgrading to an Audi but still contemplating Japanese Vs European issue that I might encounter. The P11 is a lovely car to drive... but there is something about the A4 I love... the 'Thunk' of the door closing I guess...

Had the same issue with my P11.. small cracks appeared all over the plastic cover. Tried the Araldite treatment but was temporary. (1 month). Took the radiator to CT Li0nel just near New Olympia Cinema near the Maradana Bridge... they cleaned the core, and replaced the plastic cover with a metal cover.... been almost a year and no problems since then. Spent only 6k with a 2 year warranty. Good work, and came highly recommended. Took two days though... that was the only problem I had. BTW I have a pic of the job too if you guys want to check it out.

Thanks a lot guys, from my last count, I think we have 350+ liters of water collected. With a few more cases yet to be picked up today. The Army guys wants a final count so they can send the appropriate vehicle later today. Will keep you all posted. Great Effort and thanks a lot for coming through on this!!

Wow!!! The patriotism in the forum is overwhelming!!! Hey guys.... free petrol/diesel and a Performance Chip for ever 100 Litres of water collected.... anyone interested even then at least?

The P11 manages 9.5 with a bit or sensible driving habits... The SR20 engine can take a beating yet purr like a kitten. Especially if it's a manual.
-
IT IS a good car. I have a P11 (1997) and I have had no major issues with it. Not sure about the P12. Too much gizmos for my liking. The P11 is a great run-about with plenty of power, features and economy. besides parts are freely available, though a tad expensive. Idiot proof as well... any idiot can fix it!
-
isn't that an IOC place? I pump from the Laugfs Koswatte/Talangama pumps and so far has had no issues.

Guys just to get your opinion about a now very common phrase in car adverts.... Used By.... Do we really care if the car in question has been used by a doctor, banker, engineer, lawyer, director? Can that really affect the price and condition? Does it say that these people are better at using a car than say, me, a no body? Do they drive the car differently than I do? Just because they are qualified. What can that mean? Does a sales executive use a car worse than a sales manager? I used to be one and I took care of them so well, because my job and life depended on the car. Can a doctor in Sri Lanka, who are known to amputate the wrong leg in many cases and will strike at a drop of a hat jeopardizing thousands of lives be trusted to put the right fuel in the car? Can a director of a company who skims the company be trusted to send the car to the agent for servicing? Can a lawyer who ragged other students throughout law college be trusted to have an impeccable service record for his car? I know for one thing though, I will not touch a car used by a director of a plantation sector Company..(not that I can afford it anyway). They use their cars to go to Plantation Bungalows and we all know that these roads are only for 4x4s in most cases and not for Audis or BMWs. Trust me I have seen this and had sleepless nights thinking about the punishment the cars must have gone through! When I see these ads it makes me laugh and feel sad... at these people who wants to be seen important even in these petty situations. What are your thoughts?

Used to..heard he runs with a different name these days...... You still run as ranil on DN?

Peri yeah I know....trying to get a message across to another member here!!! Ha ha ha ha....waiting for the geezer to reply my post.

man, it's daunting task getting through to some people... [automotive support services have grown quite a lot in SL now. hooking up a NOS system, remapping ECU and sprucing up y our wheels with performance parts is no biggies as long as you can afford the cost. many folks are running performance parts on their cars these days.]

Great!!! thanks, machang. How do I get in touch with him?
