  1. didn't know the TP12 came with a hyper CVT M6 version. That was the P11 to my knowledge. The TP12 only came with a regular CVT and the HP12 came with a 6 speed manual. i had a TP12 for several years when it first came out in 2001. Didn't have any problems apart from the usual wear and tear. Super comfortable and spacious but boring to drive. Just make sure you get one with a full service history and check if the transmission has been serviced by putting CVT fluid in it and not anything else.
  2. i saw that car too..looks in great nick. any idea what the asking price is?
  3. perhaps a better topic would have been what is the best handling car you have driven, and not put any qualifiers like visibility, easy parking etc.
  4. surprising. sony TV's usually last forever. my old trinitron wega is still going strong after 12 years despite being hit by lighting atleast thrice!!
  5. to my knowledge you cannot have any sort of tint on the front windows. that has always been the law.
  6. even regular oil changes are not enough. my engine is dual VVT-i with direct injection. I am a freak for maintenance and have my synthetic oil changed every 5-6 months as I do not drive long distances and my mileage is low. You have to do a full de-carbonisation every couple of years and even then you'll notice a significant amount of carbon build up thanks to the poor quality of our fuel and stop start driving conditions. this will ensure your engine is performing optimally.
  7. Model: Toyota Mark X S Package YOM: 2006 Engine: 2500 cc V6 Fuel type: 95 octane Colombo: 6 km/l Expressway: 8-10 km/l Gotta love my guzzler!
  8. sad to say but those agents are rubbish. i have heard so many complaints about them from friends who own sportages and sorentos. unless you kick up a huge drama you will not get the job done properly. sometimes you have to complain to the MD to get matters sorted out.
  9. I don't see an issue. Have left my cars and traveled pretty often for 2-3 months at a time. They have always started without a hitch. Only thing I did was ensure the tank was full, and the handbake was off and the tyres were properly inflated.
  10. got to agree here. drove a friend's GS450H. surprisingly quick and responsive for such a heavy car!

    R18 Tyres

VWvortex- the car has done around 12,000 kms on the direzzas over the last 3 + years. my only problem is they were a bit noisy at the start and got worse as they aged. i'm guessing they are wearing out unevenly inspite of doing many alignments and having no suspension related issues. i need to replace a pair now because at high speeds on expressway driving, the noise becomes very annoying. wish i could have gone for potenzas. its still good bang for buck. my friend put a set on his RX8 3 months ago and he has no complaints for now. he too had potenzas and said the dunlops can't compete with them.

    R18 Tyres

i have Dunlop DZ101 225/45/18 which is the stock tyre size on my car. after using it for 3 years i can say that performance and grip is ok. the main issue i have is they are bloody noisy and have grown louder. tyre wear has been ok, but my mileage has been conservative. also the sidewalls are very weak, have brushed a couple of kerbs and have some gashes. unavoidable sadly on the potholed streets of colombo and having low profile tyres. having said that i'd still go for them because they are reasonably priced for 18's.
  13. go for a reverse camera. there are plenty of good ones on the market with fancy night vision and parking lines that allow you to gauge the distance clearer. believe p*tco is a good place to get it done.
  14. depends on what you are after. if resale and fuel consumption is all you are looking for, then i guess prius, axio will do. if driving pleasure, comfort and luxury is what you require, VVTI's options are good. or if you insist on going for a newer japanese car which has good performance, comfort and luxury, you can get yourself a 2005-2007 mark X or 2006,07 Skyline V36.
  15. We have one in the household. got it a few months ago. no issues so far. very happy with it. does around 15-17 km/l in colombo. quite comfortable even on poor surfaces. the rear seats are a bit cramped so its more a 4 seater than a 5. not a very exciting car to drive though. we use it as a daily runabout around town so for that purpose its fine.
  16. what is your car model? does it have EPS or hydraulic power steering?
  17. guys my car is due for a good polish and wax. with all the new joints in colombo these days, any recommendations? last went to p*tstop and was not happy. they had pressed too hard with the orbital buffer and had left marks buffer marks on the paint. looked terrible on my black car. how is Kl**n Park these days? and Plush?
  18. i too was surprised that the GTR's didn't win. I was hoping to see a head to head race between both GTR's in the finals!
  19. pity if that's the case. bright sunshine this morning!
  20. what a mess! though i can't figure out how so many cars were damaged
  21. i've never heard of any agents in SL doing a recall for the vehicles they have sold. and i'm pretty sure toy*ta l*nka will never do it.
  22. saw this article today. it may be a marketing gimmik by hybrid motors to get more cars into their workshop,. but generally recalls are done FOC!
  23. was looking for one myself several months ago. but they don't come up in the classifieds and I've not heard of any for sale for a long time. suggest you check at senok service centre if they know of any that's on the market.
  24. or better yet try a V35 skyline. it comes with a V6 but 2.5 litre and its a newer car, more power, rear wheel drive and great fun. parts are not too difficult to source either.
  25. cam shaft sensors on early TP12 models tend to fail which caused engine to stall. easily replaceable for around 14k at the agents. no gasket problem as far as i know, but the X Trails which share the same QR20DE engine have some gasket issues.
