  1. Well without a proper tax policy we cant predict anything about the 2nd hand market. But if you maintain it properly and the tax structure stay the same due to the unthinkable taxes on diesel suvs the price will remain the same or in srilankan expectations appreciate.
  2. Its not all about offroading even in bumpy roads the time it takes from goimg from a to b is also less in an suv because you dont have to slowdown for potholes and due to the good torque you can easyly overtake so be less time behind roadhoggers and its better in climbing hills than the 1.5petrol and its lazy cvt. I usually can save 20 - 30 min from colombo to kandy by using the suv. In adition the extra 2 seats come in handy when you are planing to go out with your mates (like a diner out) and you all can fit into the same car rather than go in seperate cars.
  3. There is no cif limit or engine power limit You can bring down absolutely anything from the tata nano to a Range rover The thing is you only get a tax reduction of 5 million rupees. So if you bring down a premio or 3 series there will be no tax (the tax is equal to 5million) but if you bring down a montero the tax only will be (35.6million - 5million) = 30.6million. So just reduce 5million from the normal price of any car above 1500cc remeber that because here you are personally importing you are not paying the car sale owner around 0.5million when hes selling ex stock cars.
  4. Some Santafes with the same Crdi engines had an engine issue just like the honda fit but in this instance the company did a full overhaul for them free of charge even way after the warenty was over. Anyhow it was linked to using normal diesel and every user was adviced to use super diesel. After that no major issues. Everything else wearsoff even slower for example i had to change only my rear break pads at 80 000km the front ones still had some meat left at 110 000km
  5. I dont see it as a wierd question its a practical one You have 6millioish to spend on a car what should it be. It should be the sorrento I give this advice to people who are going to spend around 6million on a premio (not even considering other options)and managed to change one persons mind who went for a fully loaded 2010 sorento and is happily using it. Advantages would be The 2.2Crdi engine is much mre powerful than the premio and you can easyly overtake usimg the high midrange torque. Weve used a premio for some time and it did only around 9kmpl in town and slightly more long distance. And we use a santafe same vehicle as the sorento and it returns the figures you mentioned so the sorento will do aproximately the same. You get 7 seats and when you are going on a trip with some of your mates you dont need to hire a van. And it has more space to carry items. You can do some mild offroading in the 4wd but this is not in anyway a proper offroader. If you are using company spares its cheaper than toyota spares. Now there are adeqate external sources for parts too. The 2nd hand market is an unpredictable thing in sri lanka. But because now taxes are according to engine power and a 2200diesel will be taxed 17.6million and a 1500petrol only 6million. But kias will depreciate more than toyotas. But thats just today. The only problem is finding well maintained sorento for 6million. Most would have run close to 100 000km but you can find a low millage premio for that price So if you find a good sorento for 6million go for it
  6. Yes we cant dump a complete brand due to the issues of one model but there had been issues such as the vezal gearbox issue as well. And what i collected from the topic about the gp1 is that honda japan refused any help because it occured in jdm vehicles not made for srilanka Here also its the same with the civics intended for the uk market. This was just my openion and i was not aware about hondas r&d or expectations on this car. Yes i tested one just after the 1L price reduction when 1L cars were considered a bargain. A SR without sunroof and leather seats done 10 000mil in uk and i accept that you dont recognize its a 1L unless you check the spec sheet. Anyhow the seats wernt that much comfortable for me and the material didnt feel good for me (well dont know if it will be different if i tested an ex) and the steering controls looked cheap etc. So i decided that its not worth to spend north of 6million for that and adding the unpredictability of a newly introduced 1L engine.
  7. Can remember we bought one brand new in 1994 on a permit. It was one of the nicest looking jap cars at the time. Did a suspension overhaul engine overhaul (could have avoided it) and changed the engine mounts once other than that no other major repairs It was a good car had reliable run for 8 years and 160 000km till we did an overhaul and sold it a little while later. Mind You it was driven on bumpy roads and used to haul furniture and even cement bags. But still it did not trouble much. Now those are close to 25 years old and you cant predict a 25year old car from the way it performed at 8 years.
  8. Im not going to argue with you But my points were that the recent gp1 honda issue and how many engines had to be repaired at a relatively low millage and their gearbox issues resently can cause some doubt whether honda do enough testing before it releases to the market. Yes honda was considered reliable in the past but not in the gp1 and similar cars and the vezal. Also for the price range of the civic there are good alternatives either brand new or even slightly used in srilanka.
  9. But this is sri lanka Where people would not hesitate to buy a 7million car unknowingly paying more than 500 000 to the sales guy than importing himself and then cry on having to replace the engine monts for few thousand and vibrate his bones off for the rest of his life.
  10. How is your remort battery Did you try to start it by keeping the remort just next to the button and is there any warning lights in the dash (key light)
  11. As you have used a mazda why not consider going for a mazda 3 there are few going around for that price and imo its much nicer car than the toyota vios
  12. The main reason you should go for the manual is how rewarding it is to drive and compared to the cvts how responsive. If it was me id go for the manual picanto IMO korean manual gears are nice to drive. In my experience there is a marked increase in fuel economy in the manual gear varients unless ofcorse you drive it like you stole it. By keeping the revs down i have achieved upto 50% more on the manual of the same model compared to the cvt. And mind you the achilles heel of most cars today is the gearbox and you save a lot in maintainence and repairs when going for a manual. But ultimately it boils down to whether you love driving a manual or you consider it a pain in the left side of your a**. My personal openion manual
  13. Dont be that upset about the 3cylinder vibration issue. If its not that much of a discomfort why change the vehicle specifically for that while there are people wasting around 7million to buy 3 cylinder vehicles (honda civic). And also the new 3 series
  14. When new there is a higher price for pearl colours like pearl white. Usually pearl white purplish red and black fetch higher values due to increased demand in the 2nd hand market and silver seems to be the least sort after in that respect. When considering washing and polishing white is better. Its all upto the users taste but if it was upto me id go for pearl white and its better for resale too
  15. Im not into any of these 2 vehicles but i can tell you its better to buy a car from the authorized dealer than a gray import from a car sale. There will be a Proper warrenty 5yrs here. and it would be for recalls even after the period. Also the car will be acclimatized for sri lanka unlike gray imports. The othet thing is that if a manufacture is offering 5yrs of warrenty thats because they are pretty sure about their product and anyways you get 5yrs of headache free motoring
  16. If you want a review of an australian market car checkout cartelltv. Yes it shows more skin than substance. Honda has tried to jam in anther pair of seats to a 5seater without actually producing an suv which is large enough to be a 7seater like the previous crossroad. The leg rooms seems to be useless it seems that the designer was a bilateral leg amputee. Its like trying to put a raw of seats into a sportage than going for a sorento. While on that topic its better to go for a proper 7seater like the sorento or santafe or buy the 5seater of the crv
  17. It has a ok looking front end but the back looks hidious. I still think the fd civic looks much better than this. And in the fd1there was 1800cc engine this comes with a 1000cc turbo the durability would be highly questionable. Honda is not having a good rep regarding its engines in resant times. Also the 3cylinder engine may not be that smooth after running some miles (see the 1l vitz topic) And if it goes to close to the 7million mark its completely not worth the money Can easyly go for german rivals at that price point a slightly used recondition a3sedan or vw skoda seat cars which would have much more opptions at that price point and mind you japs are new to bolting a turbo into small engines and fitting it into a big car so there will be a lot of "issues" to come when these rack up some miles. So best option is to avoid.
  18. Engines will start to wear out from the first time you start it. It will be slightly more in the first few thousand kms so proper break in proceedures should be used. Afterwads there are a lot of factors which affect wear. Proper servicing, not driving like you stolen it, less driving in traffic, less hill climbing, keeping it stock (eg not fitting aftermarket exhausts etc) will increase the durability. Probably the new 1000cc turbo units in relatively large cars would wear off around 100 000km But the big diesel engines in pickups and suvs(4d56,4m40,4m41 and their similars from toyota nissan etc.) will not even think of wear at 100 000km
  19. I was about to mention how it would be advertised as a 3c converted very economical car mentioning figure around 14kmpl.
  20. If your going for a petrol suv be prepared for low fuel figures. These korean vehicles have great vgt turbo diesels which have much better power delivery than the petrols at low revs they have a lot of torque and they are very efficient and easier to drive The other option is the Santafe 2008 ish you can go for a good fully loaded one for that budget.
  21. I was also intrested in the vehicle model specific android units in e bay But resorted to a kenwood from a local shop due to installation and warenty. Using without any trouble for close to 5 years Probably longer than a 1L large car would last
  22. Explains why hes called bighorn kolla Not pajero (not in other languages ) kolla. And the intercooler is in a completely different league Ive seen palthsaba pajeros (turbo wagons) run over 250000km without engine repairs so its not a bad vehicle and comes with the 4d56 engine. There are ample parts including whole engines etc. So maintenance is pretty easy.
  23. I could go on and on about the new civic To make things short Dont be fooled its considered a hatchbach athough it has a slightly pointy tail Its not cheap its a 1liter and there are many audis and other european cars too at its price point of close to 7million. Its not exactly well built altough the things upfront are of quality it seems that they have the hidden bits a lot less attended Not perticularly loaded for that price point without autobreak hill keep assist and auto parking NOT made in japan its made in england the land where the parts fall apart probably not the best for the hot climate in sri lanka. It may be smooth for a 1L 3pot but not as smooth as a 4pot And its highly doubtful how this big bodied 1L will fare in long term Its not a disposable item in sri lanka. After all honda civic sedans were going for the 4mill range few years ago so what happened. Still i think the FD1 was much better specialy with a 1.8 and it was a proper sedan If i had that amount of money to dump on a car Id try to go for a audi a3 or q2 (may be slightly higher priced) a CHR If its not essential to be brand new audi a4 and a lot comes to mind. Its impulsive to buy because its 1L so it was so called reduced by the budget but if the same car was the same price from the begining would you buy it. And its a new car so when more used cars come to the market from england the price will reduce.
  24. There are better options like the Lancer 2008 Mazda 3 2008 Civic Fd 2008 And if you are really into toyotas you can go for a 141lx 2008 it had kind of similar space to the allion but much newer Probably could grab an example of the above 4 with around 100 000km for the same price.
