Recently I noticed that the center console is heating up for after 10-12km drive even. Actually I noticed just below the Hand break lever and the gear lever has heated up considerably.

I just thought to ask from all of you guys before going for inspection.

sounds a cracked silencer middle barrel or silencer itself close to centre console, since it appeared all of a sudden. Further check the heat shield goes between the silencer and floor of the vehicle.

I have noticed the same in my car, i mean just the gear lever. Maybe the heat shield between the exhaust and the chassis has cracked or something..

Just a thought, running low on gear oil may cause the transmission to heat up and hence the gear lever. Might not effect the center console area though.

very very VERY remote possibility...especially on a fwd car

Yeah, you are probably right. The shifter linkage is just to long to transfer all the heat over isn't it. I was rather thinking about my previous Jimny, the tranny and transfer case is right below the shifter in that thing. :)

Thanks all of you for the ideas. If this thing happened due to the cracked heat shield, how can i get it solve it? Is it available to buy?

Finaly I was able to go to a silencer work shop. They checked and told that there is no leak in the silencer and heat shields are also OK nothing is cracked too. And further he added that the inside partitions of silencer barrel has being corroded and breaking up. But there is no change in beat. So I didn't trust him and went to another place. They told that it could be slightly corroded, but the condition is ok to run another 1-2 months.

So still there is no solution to the original issue. Any more ideas? Hope that it can't be related to gear box right?

Very strange. Due to the rubber bushes, I don't think heat will be transferred from the gear box to the gear level inside the cabin. I think if hitting the exhaust, blowing exhaust pipe or heat shield damage is ruled out you might have to take the trim around the gear level off and investigate the problem. Look in to what else is heating up underneath the trim.

I checked, all the heat shields are in place and in good condition. It seems nothing wrong with them. :(
