Changing To Allow Wheels For Prius Highbrid

I wouldn't advise doing it. It will create more friction from the tires which will make the electric motors to work harder, thus creating more stress on the batteries, making them overheat and eventually blow up. This has been a serious issue in the US. You can find more details about it on www.google.com/hybridsfordummies

I want to change the rim & tyres to low profile allow wheels in my prius. Is anyone done that before? will there be bad affects from this?

Prius is not a car to be modified. After all you will diminish the whole purpose of having it.

+1 this is quite true.. think everything in that car that came in stock form is optimized.. so dont think its a good idea to mess around with vital aspects list the wheels and tires of it..

You can easily install a 17" or even an 18" wheel and tire package on that car without any issues. Just make sure the tire circumference is as close to the stock size as possible.

Use this to help you decide on the size.

Where's the Hybrid expert???...When someone posts a mechanical or a technical issue of a hybrid the a$$holes nowhere to be seen... :action-smiley-060:

Funny thing is, your right, Don. The Marketing crew is strangely absent when people actually ask questions about hybrids.

Actually as the car is hanging in the balance and the manufacturers have calculated every gram of the vehicle for it's dynamics it is very dangerous modifying it.

Specially when it comes to the wheels if the diameter changes the indications will all go wrong and the car wouldn't be able to calculate when to switch on the engine (3rd gen).

If the weight changes it will effect the dynamic breaking system and could lose contrall of the car.

And the delicate wheel hubs would fail more quickly.

that's why people stick to the ugly alloys in the hybrid civic compared to the normal one's.

It's true that people fit new alloys to hybrids but they will change it's

fuel figures

increase maintenance issues

I'd personaly not change the alloys of a hybrid

There are a 1000 and 1 other reasons why u shouldn't modify u'r hybrid

+ make sure that u buy u'r hybrid with it's original rims too car sale will say they are original after fitting them here

No major effects. You'll improve the appearance and handling considerably at the cost of some fuel economy. (Hybrids typically come on narrow low rolling resistance tires for better fuel economy.)

I assume you're referring to the 2nd gen Prius which came standard with 15 inch tires. There isn't a lot of room in the wheel well, but it is possible to fit 16 and 17 inch tires in there.

Try this website to experiment with different wheel/tire combinations for your car
