Well the most common Mitsubishi engines are the 4G13, 4G15, 4G91, 4G92, 4G93(T) and the very special 4G63(T). If the engine on the IO is a 1.8L it could be the 4G93.

To answer OPs question: The fuel consumption on the S40 (if indeed it's what you are talking about) is slightly higher similar cars from other manufactures. As for spare parts, they are harder to find and more costly.

Only buy the volvo if you know what you are getting into. If you are a guy who cares about the price/scarcity of spares and fuel consumption, then go for a toyota, nissan, mtsubishi.

Agree 100%, they go for cheap coz they aint cheap to keep.

so watch out, you could get your car checked out though there is a specialist dude in ratmalana, behind or near WADSCO the watch guys! forget his name.

The 4G93 GDI version is definitely what you get in the 1.8 ltr Pajero iO. The 2.0 lrt Paj iO comes with the 4G94.

All Volvos certainly don not come with Mitsubishi engines, Not all S40s come with Mitsubishi engines either. There are older S40s (96 - 98 cars) that come with Volvo engines. This was before the Ford partnership in early 1999. As mentioned earlier these are the ones that have the reverse gear engaging forwards.

Whether it's a Mitsubishi GDI engine or a Volvo engine, the recommended fuel for both is 95 Octain. A well maintained 2.0 ltr GDI engine running purely on 95 octain could give you up to 11Km / ltr (in SL). GDI pumps can be very costly to replace. If it's an automatic, a good way of identifying a under pressure GDI pump is to put it in to D or reverse and not take your foot off the brake. If the engine revs dip (vibrates a bit) and re-turns to the normal rev count in idle, chances are that the pump needs replacing. However this could just mean blocked injectors as well.

Note: An S40 with a 2.0 ltr Volvo engine running on 95 octain will give you better fuel economy than most Jap cars of the same size.

Definitely is better in the looks department IMHO and you should be able to pick a decently maintained one, i think harshan sold his 306 for around 1mn :unsure:

well i sold my car and i dont have anything to buy now.. i could buy a decent 306 but since im in kandy, there are no spare parts available here

well if parts are an issue for the peugeot, I imagine it would be tougher for a volvo.

Guys, could any of you convince AL that they need to include a price range filter in their search box?

Like Schiffer, lots of people would benefit from being able to type in a price range and filter the vehicles within their budget, instead of having to do it manually like going through news paper classifiedes.

Hi. My dad had a brand new S40 from 1999 which he used for 3 years. It was a 2L engine and did only 5Kmpl in Colombo. Outstations in did around 8Kmpl. The driving pleasure was highly commendable.

Probably not relevant to OPs question but thought to chip in as I got nothing else to do. I had two Volvos for the last 6yrs. They are fantastic cars, very reliable, comfy and looks good. Superb build quality. The first was a S80 with 2.5l common rail diesel. Did about 40 to 45MPG. The current one is a V50 with 2liter turbo. Fuel consumption is not as good as the S80.

However the depreciation is terrible. You loose 40% in the first year!

I would never buy a volvo in Sri Lanka though. You will be asking for lot of trouble.

That is what I thought, and 42MPG is reasonable for a common rail diesel in what I assume to be European roads. Our chaps seem to have developed a habit of just pouncing on people for the smallest things !

Does anyone know of a 850 T5 for sale in SL or if there is one here at all? That time in my life where I now need, want a station wagon, and as far as station wagons go, the T5 takes the cake.

I saw a a green 850 or a v70 recently. probably the only non-undertaker used volvo wagon here. I don't know if there are any t5 saloons here. but I know for sure our people are too tame to get a t5 station wagon. your best bet would be to get a standard station wagon and bring down a t5-r or an r kit.

I got familiar with the t5r while I was in uk. my uncle had one brought down from italy and it was always 200 km/h all the way down the A3 on our way to guildford. It was dark green and had black leather and alcantara seats and those lovely 17" gunmetal wheels. I can still remember the 5 cylinder turbo singing whenever we drove through the hills of surrey. It was a tail happy beast too

The next best thing will be a Legacy GTB wagon, and they are very rare too.

Been in side both on some crazy long trips, not here, naturally. You are right about the singing of the T5.

Doing a T5 swap will cost, more than I am willing to expend. But still the 850 is a beast in its normal form.

There is a red t5r S70 if i am not mistaken.

We had a V70 crossroad long years ago (2002 i think), when they first came to the market. Was an absolute pleasure to be in during long distance trips!!

Blimey, the A3 to Guildford!!!! I first remember driving that road when it was a three-lane nightmare...that's right, one lane going one-way, another lane going the other-way, and the one in the middle for overtaking in both directions!!! True, I tell you. It was the reps in their Cortinas and Vauxhalls with their pedals to the metal that scared the life out of me......I used to hug the driving lane and never chanced overtaking. Sometimes the Brits have mad ideas....
