Hi,

I'm noticing slight black smoke from my car (CE110 Diesel 1997, 2C engine)

I also noticed slight pulling power reduction. But average fuel consumption looks like not changed (around 12.5km/l.) (about 180K km on clock)

1. Is it time for me to do engine tune up? injector cleanup?

2. What are the other relevant things to do while doing engine tuneup, injector cleaning on this 2C engine?

3. I would like to know good place to do this clean up and any necessary adjustments. (need updated information. Already searched through forum) Preferably around Galle or Malmbe.

4. How long does it take to do this task? Can I get this done same day?

5. What are the potential spare parts necessary and average cost?

6. How much it will cost generally, except spare parts?

Thanks in advance

And old smoking 110 in malabe ay........

i haven't seen it must be because the trail of smoke or cause it's so common

and for a 15yrs old car with 180k on the clock (might have been more due to easily tampered analogue odo)

it must be needing an engine overhaul

'toyota sucks' ,

I think your reply is correct at 180K most Diesel engines needs a overhaul.

you said slight black smoke, not an issue for a diesel engine. Did you go through the emission test without any issue recently ? how was the smoke density, carbon particles in the report? Do not panic unnecessarily. However, getting a tune-up done, as in Injector cleaning and re-calibrating probably with a nozzle replacement will always provide better results towards black smoke and pulling power plus better fuel efficiency.

having said that I assume you change the air filter and do services regularly. Clogged air filter can cause a black smoke with a drop in pulling power.

2. What are the other relevant things to do while doing engine tuneup, injector cleaning on this 2C engine?

check the diesel filter and drain water or replace if required.

3. I would like to know good place to do this clean up and any necessary adjustments. (need updated information. Already searched through forum) Preferably around Galle or Malmbe.

refrain from commenting as i've had mixed experience with different places, go with a reference through your mechanic. However, heard good comments on D*mo but never got a service done through them.

4. How long does it take to do this task? Can I get this done same day?

if all goes well and sourcing new nozzles is not an issue, yes, can be done in one day.

5. What are the potential spare parts necessary and average cost?

injector nozzles, depending on the condition of the nozzles, o-rings

a denso nozzle would cost around 4,000, not quite updated on this.

edit: P.S - Mileage is not the ONLY DETERMINANT factor for an engine overhaul. I've seen 1C and 2C engines running close to 300k without an overhaul, a relative of a friend running his HIACE close to 500k without an overhaul!! Keep the overhaul as the last ditch.

Completely Wrong!

We had a Hiace with 2L engine which ran around 360,000 Kms without any issue! we swap the engine at around 370K as i remember.

Don't worry about an overhaul if the engine is well maintained.

Are you for real????

all that experience you talk about here and this is what you have to say????

what bollocks!!!!

OP

follow harshan's advice. At least that man knows what he's talking about.

I too have a diesel. no need to panic and start with little things first.

besides, if the engine is burning oil as it's the case with one needing and overhaul, the smoke should be white/blue

excessive black smoke means you're either not burning the fuel properly or having too much of fuel being injected.

start with air filters, fuel filters....then the injectors, re-pressure or replace, then the injector pump...

all those things are routine mainnennace stuff for a diesel vehicle.

Ignore Toyota_Sucks....he's a blithering bloody idiot.

Hi guys,

Can you please help me on this, I have to clarify this since different mechanics says different things.

This is a Toyota 2L EFI Turbo engine. all the filters are good, serviced on time and have been using Shell engine oil (mineral) and around 190K on the clock. Injectors cleaned and fuel pump serviced about 10,000 kms before. and engine doesn't burn oil.

Did the emission test two weeks back and got passed. Smoke density was 0.6 - 0.7 at 3200-3500 RPM. there wasn't any bad smoke at the test except the normal slight smoke which is normal to a diesel.

The problem is, there's a smoke at sudden accelerations. when i told the guy at the workshop he said may be the engine is worn and want to do a scan first and see as there's a issue with my airflow or oxygen sensor (can't remember). That was shown in a diagnose report i got earlier.

what do you think about this? from where I have to start. What i thought to do was replace injectors with new ones first and see.

Thanks for your time.

Sorry abiman for staling your thread!

Main suspects would be, oxygen sensor and the turbo engaging mechanism( I'm not quite sure how the valves are being operated in this engine, the 406 HDI engine equipped with electronically operated vaccum valves )

And the turbo itself. Proceed diagnosing in above order.

thanks harshansenadhir!

I'll have a look, i don't think this has electronically operated valves. I can hear the turbo sound at around 1800 RPM. Thanks for your advice :)

I too own CE110 1997 Face lifted,Auto 165000km (Genuine).

My experience is slight black smoke in sudden acceleration is quite common in diesel engine.

If the smoke is too much (You wont pass the emission test) just replace/clean diesel/air filters accordingly then go for injector cleaning/replacing.

Do not panic to get engine overhauled. Since you have done 180k, definitely your engine is little bit under compressed but my experience is you can get average of 250k from 2C engine with out big issue

harshansenadhir has given a more or less complete answer, thanks for the sharing!

Few weeks ago my CE110 had difficult start throughout the day, one mechanic suggested me regarding engine overhaul for permanent solution and for temporary solution removing the glow plug controller unit sensor (attached to the engine) then the glow will heat up the engine little bit more as this will keep the glow on for little bit longer. I just replace the battery and problem was solved.

At last, it is very sad/bad to see some member/s continue to "blame" Japanese (car) vehicle over European vehicles or vise versa.

In my view there is no car called the best car it all depends on what your needs, what your budget is and how easy to maintain practically (You cant always go to the dealers/wait for ebay)

So it would be very nice keep your mouth shut if you cant offer a help even from a word; not like "old smoking 110.....trail of smoke or cause it's... so common...."!
