Hi Guys, my car (K12) has developed especially after long journeys a problem, where the check engine light comes on. And of course with it comes the loss in power (Safe mode). After switching the engine off & turning it back on, it seems to reset itself. I had it checked out by the agents once before & they said it maybe due to, the then bad battery or it could be the throttle/throttle body. Just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem either with the K12 or any other vehicle. I just want to double check before I bust some dosh over something that might not be the case. I have checked the air filter & changed it from the K&N that i was using to the standard.

Did the agents tell you what the error code was? If you haven't gotten it read / checked I'd start there. [Even if the code has now cleared itself the code scanner the agents use should be able to pull up historical codes. Anything that triggers the ECU to activate a 'limp home mode' should IMHO be looked at as soon as you can.]

Just got back from the Agents. They told me its either the throttle sensor or the throttle body  they aren't sure either. And wanted me to run & if it happens again to bring it back..!! I'm wondering if there is anyone else that I can show it to. Just to get a second opinion.

Not something I can help you with I'm afraid... It might be helpful to get the error code number off the agents when they run the scan as that way you might be able to read up on the issue via forums, technical service bulletins etc. Its interesting that this happens after a long journey. I mean if it was a faulty sensor etc. I'd expect your ECU to throw the error code out all the time. Weird. Either way let us know if you DO pin-point what the fault is. It'd be cool to read up on it.

I got the same issue while on my way back from sigiriya the other day(on my K12), but there was no loss of power (or any other difference), it didnt re-set after switching the engine off either :(

When the enging light is on, do all cars normally experience a loss in power ? i have seen the word "limp home mode" in the forums, but i didn't feel any difference after the light came up.

Im hoping to go and get it scanned and hopefully autodata could tell me what the code means.

Gyiman, did you get things sorted ? what was the issue ?

appreciate your help mate.

Machan I haven't had the problem since the last time I posted.. Fingers crossed. The agents said it could be either the throttle or the throttle body as that was what the scanner showed. Unfortunately I didn't get the code. They wanted me to wait until it happened again for them to get a better idea..!! I am still looking around for a second opinion.

So up to now what the agents did was just to clear the code ?

Update : 23 /11 /2011

Got the car checked and the O2 sensor was the culprit.

Got it replaced and hopefully the check engine light would stay away.

Note : Got it replaced from A*to Mir*ge and they charged me 12K + for the sensor... Not sure if thats the right amout but my gut feeling is that i got ripped off ! Will check the prices at the agents & other shops and update.
