Nissan Presia R11 Engine Smoke

hasheeb

Question

Dear friends,

three weeks back my car's Engine Timing chain got damaged so i have changed timing chain, timing adjustment and other related things, and also i have changed Fan belt and alternator belt also, those i have put Nissan original spare parts.

Now I'm having problem is when i runs in speed or long trip or mountain roads there is white color huge smoke coming from silencer and after that there is noise also coming from engine like ignition sound. last day i went to Colombo from Kandy then i had this problem two three times in uthuwankanda and kadugannawa roads.

when after coming to home i have checked my oil levels its goes down to below the low level. i have checked before i go to this journey it was around 3/4. and when this smoke comes there is oil burning smell also coming. my technician put the mobile engine oil to when after he change the timing chain.

There was no problem like this before i change the timing chain. I have gone to my technician he cleaned EFI injector's, and done some tunings. but problem is same.

Please tell me what could be the problem and there is no problem in starting in the morning and its normal stage no smoke also.

One of the my friend said there may be problem in barring or else engine gone will it be like that?.

is it advisable to put newly, caltex oil and check, and after that do some EFI Computerized tune up.

thanks

Hi Hasheeb,

I have the same car as yours.

Generally a white smoke is generated when engine coolent enters the combustion chamber and gets vapourized. It's basically steam. Burning oil generally gives out blue smoke. In your case, i think both oil and coolent is entering the combustion chamber but only white smoke is visible as the blue smoke is masked by the white smoke.

In the Nissan GA engine, replacement of timing chain requires the disassembly of the cylinder head and if this was not re-assembled with the new gasket properly, water can easily leak into the combustion chamber and give out white smoke. In the re assembly of cylinder head there are number of gaskets which needs to be applied properly to ensure that oil is kept out of the cylinders.

The bottom line is that your mechanic has done a botch job. Immediately stop using the car for your day to day journeys and get it checked out by an experienced mechanic. Problem is serious. So dont wait around thinking what oil to use or what easy fix can be applied for this.

Experts please correct me if i have said something wrong

I think you are absolutely right K9Master, though oil smoke sometimes manifests as white smoke as well particularly when its due to worn valve seats. Either way I second your advice as well !

Dear friends,

Sorry for replying delay.

Thank you verry much for your greate advises its really worth it for me get idea of my vehicles current situation.

I have consulted another machanic who is handling only engines (But most experiences with

Deisel Engines). he checked and told me to change the oil and problem will be sloved and he asked me to put some rough oil like Caltex.

so i replaced the oil and there is some improvement in running in engine its running well in strait roads.

but when i runs on mountain roads the problem is same when i runs around 1km in mountain road its getting same noise and and smoke (smoke is lower than earlier) then i reduced the accelator and sound gone and smoke also reduced after again when i accelerated its getting that noise like some two irons are trouching.

Now there is no reducing oil after running and oil burning smell also verry low.

I Have checked the water level also its also not reduced

I forgot to tell when i replacing oil, in old oil there were some small iron dusts could be seen.when we touch the oil.

Thank you.

I'm no expert but This is a very serious issue, if there is metal dust in the oil.

Don't fool around u'll completely ruin u'r car

This must be due to the 1st mechanic reassembling the engine incorrectly.

The usage of thicker oil will only reduce oil consumption but the problem will persist.

I recommend u to take it to a proper mechanic without using it

I think your engine is probaby under compression (maybe can be alleviated by simply putting a new set of piston rings for the moment as it doesn't sound too bad) or your valve seats need replacement. I say this because it's definitely burning something other than petrol. Also I wonder if damage to internal components have been completely resolved after your timing chain failure.

Hi Hasheeb,

I have the same car as yours.

Generally a white smoke ..

In the Nissan GA engine...

The bottom line is that your mechanic...applied for this.

hasheeb, k9master

Ya. white smoke due to engine burns coolant. Mechanic has done mistake. :(

I wonder how timing chain got damaged :-O

Check to see that ur coolant level too might be low now.

Probably bad gasket re installation or damaged.

Oil is not "Mobile" but "Mobil" & this is perfectly ok unless u put "Mobil 1000", instead of "Mobil 1" which is fully synthetic & might not best for bit old engine.

(Also U have "Presea" not "Presia")

Anyway, don't drive car in this condition which will make things even worst.

Please show to good Engine Mechanic.

Dear friends

I got and good engine machanic and he done the work best for me.

Problem was timing of chain. when my old mechanic changing the timing chain he didn't do the propper timing to chain but this guy more expert in engine.

he ran the test run and told to me, need to do small adjustment in timing chain and he done that its perfect. thank god he is expert. after that i have run around 200km no problem at all.

when he doing repairing he has done some EFI injector clean & tuneup and rottle kit clean up to preform well and there was problem in shifting gear when i accelerate. so he told gear box oil may old so he removed gear box cover in down side and cleaned well all and changed the gear box oil and now its changin gear wrry well. and also my one plug were burned. he changed all gour with NGK plugs.

he is greate guy and most good thing is he came to my home by motorbike and done the all reapir in front of me and i purchased all the needed stuff for him. and he charged only rs 4500 for all the his works.

So dear friends it was geate help for me your ideas to get and idea

thanks
