Engine Oil Smells Petrol

NRX

Thanks Mahesh, it was the same reason. radiator was blocked but suspected something to do with coolant or a repair by a previous owner. so gasket leak ruled out without having a fair reason. my bad :(

Yeah Chathuranga, taking car to the mechanic this weekend.

Avoid going to same mechanic again. It seems clearly that he is trying to take you on a ride.

Any sensible mechanic would check the gasket and other oil leak before replacing your radiator. Given the fact that all indicators are there to blown out gasket in your case. I mean, oil in radiator, white smoke, oil level drop.. what kind of mechanic would replace radiator without correcting the issue, unless he know he can blame the previous owner and tell you stories to get your money.

So my adivse is, you have to replace your head gasket in first place. And take if to some other place not the same mechanic.

Then clean the radiator using raditator flush. If you have old radiator still with you clean it too. However depends on the oil in side your radiator, you might have to use specialized product to clean raditor oil. Or you can flush the radiator in short intervals and see how it goes.

By saying occational white smoke, did you mean the white smoke which you get in the cold start in rainy or very cold whether? (And eventually fades away in couple of minutes when the engine idles properly), Or does white smoke comes then & there during the day time runs as well?

Yeah man i do not have much knowledge when it comes to this level. but I asked from the mechanic whether is it anything to with gasket but he said no. surely i'm avoiding the place this time.

Machan, I have noticed this white smoke not only with cold start but even after running for time as well.

Update on the topic.

took the vehicle to the garage (not the usual place). they too assumed that its the leaky gasket after get to know above symptoms plus seeing air bubbles in the radiator when the engine runs. something I was unaware of before. they'll be inspecting further .

will be checking what needs to be replaced exactly after seeing the damage to gasket other other parts in the next week. I checked with Un1 M0t0r$ for parts and they said, 10.5k for the head gasket and and 49 for the overall kit. next week will be checking outside as well as I heard its much cheaper outside. any specific place I should be looking for?

What does this kit contain? Gaskets?

If you are opening the car up, might be useful to attend to a few other things as well, if money permits.

First it might be good to replace the piston rings, as doing so later you will have to endure the costs of the gasket kit again. It might be also a good idea to get the valve guides replaced. This will ensure you will not have to touch the engine internals for quite a while, and will save some money in the long run as well.

There aren't specific shops who specialise in Mitsubishi genuine parts that I've heard of. Perhaps Davy or Trinity can advise.

There's no specific shop to get genuine mitsu parts known to me as well, but any decent spare parts shot should have them. I was able to source genuine parts from shops other than the agents on several occasions. But the locations are bit far away from where you are situated. (Moratuwa/Kalutara/JaEla)

Even the shops at panchi have them, you might be able to shed few hundred rupees on the above quoted price of 10.5k but when considering the extra time & travelling cost its useless. I'm getting 5% discount from Unit#d Mot#rs cuz of my office (not sure if its still there though).

Anyway, have another contact who could produce genuine parts for lesser price (if only he could source from his contacts). Just gave him a call and he said he'll look in to it tomorrow. will give you a call if i get a positive answer.

10.9 K for head gasket is not fair and 49 K for the whole kit is like crazy.

The whole kit usually contains Head Gasket, Valve oil seals, cam oil seals, tappet core packing ...etc. I wonder how they could could quote 49K for those items.

I bought the head gasket for my car from Teck Motors for 5K (Genuine) and the other oil seals (Except the tappet core packing which they didn't had) for few thousand bucks. For my mechanic 5K for head gasket is still too much. However since its Genuine, can't argue more on that.

So my advice is, please surf ebay for good quality OEM brands head gasket / kit. You might be able to find a good quality product for a reasonable price.

@ The Don. TBH I have no idea what this overall kit contains. they say head gasket kit is one unit and overall kit is another. I would love to attend some other things as well but at this point I don't think I can unless it is really really required as i have to be more careful with my budget due to the arrival of new member of our family :-)

@Amila_Silva, machan, I'm afraid i have to get the car repaired soon - due to the same reason i have mentioned above :-) so i don'y think i can get it down via eBay soon I checked with $uprim3 m0t0r h0use Wijerama and they said they have it.

The Mitsubishi genuine head gaskets on eBay are close to the 10K mark as well. I'm also curious if the OP can find the set for less, because I want to do a soft rebuild of my own Mitsubishi and wanted to stick to genuine parts.

I doubt what i'm gonna get above is genuine :sad-smiley-067:

The overhaul kit will have the parts to do what I suggested. I guess certain things are more important than others, but even if you don't use original items, try to get them done while the engine is open. I don't think its that much more expensive above what you are already spending.

Yeah and please also look into valve seats/ guide seals as well. Typically thats the big problem area on most cars, and you will notice the car smoke a bit on high revs. But if replacing it must be with very good quality parts because else, your existing worn ones might last longer.....

update on the issue.

got the car repaired last Saturday. below things were done

1. Head gasket replaced with the overhaul kit.

2. Radiator top tank replaced- they said it was damage may be due to overheating - not something I had noticed

3. spark plugs were replaced

meantime right after the first start noticed that engine is vibrating - if that is the word - a bit and they said its due to worn out plug codes - connecting from distributor to spark plugs - and asked me to change them soon as there were at their End of Life and could lead to considerable power drop from the engine output.

finally I took the car out and run the vehicle nearly around 20 KM and felt OKAY.

but the next day I felt a massive miss frequently while I was driving and unusual vibration was felt when the car came to a complete stop lets say in the traffic lights. so decided to change the plug codes as its near impossible to drive with that condition.

had to spent around 43K for whole thing and now car is running very smoothly like never before and feeling a considerable gain in pulling power as well.

now keeping eye on the water level - not yet moved to coolant - and engine oil levels to make sure everything is fine.

So this vibration due to plug wires being faulty was not there before the repair ? Weird right ?

yeah machan, its bit weird. but sorry guys, one thing I couldn't highlight was, last couple of days just before the repair I felt a slight miss occasionally which I didn't pay much attention and just day before the repair car got over heated - might be the reason to crack the radiator top tank as well -. couldn't that be the reason?

The miss was probably due to the overheating.
