Don't Fix New Modified Valve Covers(Cap) To The Tyres

Dear all

I replaced new modified valve covers to my car month ago and yesterday when i went to tyre centre to check the air oh what a mess NO CAP can be removed as all tighten just like superglu apply so all 4 valves had to replaced and tyre centre guy told these caps never use as after sometime it has some dusty particle like cement ant when it heat due to daytime it make terrific bond if it happen never remove the cap unless remove the valve from the rim.

here i attached one cap with the valve (actually had to cut to remove)

I have this exact same type of dust caps, but never had this issue. I normally check air when I pump gas, so may be it helps to keep them loose. But anyway thanks for the info.

There's another thing. When you let the workers at sheds to check air, they tend to tighten these dust caps to their maximum, like they prevent air from leaking.

So normally I do the dust cap tightening part myself whenever there is a worker to help.

The one in the photo looks like it hasnt been screwed on properly to begin with. So this might have added to the problem (unless the misaligned groves are from you trying to force it open)

Same thing happened to me..... but I was aware of this issue, but assumed since I check the air regularity the darn thing would not oxidize.

But had to replace the value, no big deal. Now I just stick to the rubber type ones.

hi tyre centre guys told me if we put this metal or plastic caps before fix apply grease or such things or else it may happen after sometime i think due to sun or uv rays it becoming some dusty and it fix to valve like superglue so tyre centre guys told at least once a week check all caps loosen and if dust can seen then clean and apply but sure its not practically as forgetting it until air filling.

It's nothing to do with the sun in regards to metal dust caps. It's because metal caps are usually made of ally which naturally corrodes just the same as alloy wheels can corrode into hubs so they must be levered off or tapped off with a soft hammer. Like others have said the simple solution for this if you want to have shiny anodised metal dust caps is to use an anti seize compound such as copper slip

Happened to me too. The way I saw it, it was some kind of oxidation which had cemented the caps to the valve sleeve. I guess the alloy used to manufacture these caps are not suitable for the job, or they maybe not suitable for SL weather.

They can look quite smart but some are rather expensive, if your gonna have them, worthwhile getting the locking ones that use a smal Allen key grub screw. I used to see local kids back in the uk stealing them off bentleys to put them on their bikes!

same here.. i had silver colour caps almost 3 years.. few went missing some time back. There is a guy at pertol shed who help to pump air. I think he remove them and keep. So When he come across another vehicle without caps he fix them for around Rs.20 - 50 ..
