Yes nothing is impossible if you prepared to spend money. for what reason you want this change.

It can be done, today no mechanic will want to do a modification like what you need. I have converted disc from hub brakes for better efficiency.

Modified the hand brake to center near gear box. It is a very time consuming job

All garages will want to do a job with new spares and earn their money.

There will be other members who know experienced mechanic who will undertake to do this modification.

Please be patient for other members response for your request.

Hi Sylvi,

Thanks for the tip... and thanks for your help... I will wait for others to reply.

I wanted this to conversion because,

  • for better braking
  • and good looking... :-)

hi mate - you will get absolutely no better braking from a 'converted' rear disc setup unless you continuously break down from 100+ kmph i.e. race.

So it will be just your 2nd point - it could be a nice cosmetic mod if you get a nice pair of calipers :)

But it will be a time consuming and disproportionately expensive cosmetic mod - however, it's certainly possible if you find the components from a compatible car like an integra.

i think best suitable car for finding components for this is civic ek3 Vi-RS. :)

well i converted mine to discs a long time ago. it wasn't such a hassle. firstly, my reasons for doing so were that drums lock up in wet weather, and braking power reduces a lot then. and of course, it looks a lot meaner.

you will need the complete swing arm (with bush) and hub. you can use the same rear upper and lower arms the car came with, but you may have to buy it from the spare parts shop in case it comes connected to the set they have for sale. it cost me 12,500 per arm. (25k total).

installation was another 3k or so. that depends on the mech. but do give it to someone who's into performance modifications, because the average joe may not know the finer points of doing this.

look for parts in delkanda, or hill street. i found mine on hill street. the rear discs are from a ViRS.

once installed, you need to adjust rear camber so that it isn't too negative. if not you'll chew through your tyres in days.

the ABS lines do work with the discs also, so check if they are there on the parts you buy. the handbrake also works just fine with them.

but mind you, technically, in dry weather, a drum of equal diameter is actually more efficient at braking than a disc.

something i would have liked to do, or would like you to consider if you have the contacts/can afford it:

ebay has cross drilled ventilated slotted (and what-ever-else'd!) brake rotors for the civic. various big names (brembo, endless, stillen) saw a brembo pair that was jet black that would look patta kewl for $100. again, if there's a relative coming down for a vacay, kiss up to him/her/them and get them to bring it! worth the effort, i say!

rotors are comparatively cheap, calipers are expensive. but they do add that touch of menace to a regular car. people then wonder what's under the hood for it to need such stopping power ;) says a lot more than a goday body-kit or spoiler or scoop ever will

I've seen a white EK3 around Union Place/Slave Island years ago which had rear disc conversion. Car had aero mods but was one of the more graceful Civics out there. Was/Is that your Civic @komisiripala?

nope. mine was more in mount. and most of the east coast. here it is:

sold it to a chap in bandarawela. its better that its out of sight now. would've broken my heart to see it being driven by someone else daily. moved on to an integra SiR DB8.

Are you sure its $ 100 ? or did you miss a zero... Its very unlikely it could be so cheap, but I could be wrong.

But there are separate brembo look a like covers, You fix it over your existing calipers so it looks like you have brembo ? A bit silly, but if its only looks I guess it will work well.
