Be more specific about what you need to know. I personally think Rios are good cars, although underrated in Sri Lanka. The key is to find one which was imported brand new to Sri Lanka.

You might touch 14 on long runs depending on how much you are able to cruise. In stop-go traffic, you are looking at around 9 to the litre.

Crosswind is correct. Compared to Accent's (made in the same era) Rio is much comfortable. Only draw back is the fuel figures.

Some users said that its a good fuel economy car. It does 13-14 kmpl in outstation. How about fuel consumption within colombo area? (I mean generally.) Is this comfortable car? and how about resale of this car.

yes it may be i have a kia spectra and it does 12-13 at outstation and 10-11 at col but its 1.6 kia rio comes 1.3 so it does i think. resale value if the vehical at good cond then around same price u buy but not much.

According to specs the 2002 rio weigh more than 1000kg so imo 1.5 is more suitable, even if its a manual. Don't know whether a 1300cc is available anyway.

It's a comfortable car to go in. Resale value will depreciate because of the way SL car market has build the midset of Korean cars.

I used a KIA RIO 2001.... for 4 years leather seats and all... in general the car was good.... but i had major issues with the plug wires..coz every time i go outstation my engine check light comes up and i keep resetting it... but i did change the wires at car plan..."which i should say.. back then was good for nothing"

RIO's have a common issue known as a cold startup (where the engine keeps missing until its hot).. which can be fixed with a ECU update which is available on the net.. but back then car plan didnt have the equipement to update the ECU, the engine is mostly MAZDA so parts are not a major issue now and even then... I can remember submitting the link StreetKIAs to AU back then also... If i did have a choice i would go for the spectra of the same year.. due to the fact that the spectra is more modifiable and has more grunt than the RIO.... fuel well nothing that would make you go wow...8 to 9... 1.5Ltr is wat u need to have. 1 more thing i didnt like the gearshift it was very clumsy... u need to get a short shifter in... mazda's are a direct fit...

Thanks Bora.Mora, What is the engine capacity of ur car? How about fuel consumption of your RIO?

It was a 1500 manual (HR-4521) now the car is wasted, i saw it recently with a broken timingbelt and the body looks so sad, something between 8 to 9 city outstation it did around 10 to 11 once down to una.

It seems RIO is not a good car and If i buy it, i'm wasting my money right. is it better to go for Japanese car like HONDA eg8?

Cars get wasted if cheapskates buy them for cheap and not do any maintenance whatsoever. It's hardly the fault of the product.

That's something common with Koreans, Euros as well as Japs. Believe me, I have seen wasted AE110s (I remember one with a baiya that couldn't be sold for the price tag of 1.45 mill, even with the English number plate it had, because the cheap-ass paint job and the quick engine clean-up was just not enough to cover its problems).

Key is to find a good car, even if you have to pay a premium.
