Hi guys,

i would like to pick your brains for the known locations of any old American trucks in SL. I know of two so far.

  • 1977 dodge M886 4x4 ambulance (basically a W200 series truck with a ambulance body) with a 318cid V8, located in a 4x4 modifying garage in thalawathugoda. The body is completely rusted out. the chassis and axles are bieng used to run a Dodge Ram 1500 body he has droped onto it. still working on it as far as i know. i know this cuz i bought its original engine.
  • Ford Ambulance located at the Gangaramaya Pansala premises. YOM unknown but looks like a 70's design.

care to add any info you gents might have come across?

Btw, if anyone knows of a transfercase removed from any of the above mentioned trucks, please let me know guys!

Well the Jeep is 59.Bought from an army auction.According to my sources this has seen a lot of action and carried a machine gun.[not verified].Mahindra also made these under liscense but they are much smaller and narrower. You can see a few of the Mahindras still available for hire at Yala.Wilpattu and other national parks.but the original american version like mine is very rare.

Dont forget to upload a few pics as well

Here's a pic.its undergoing tinkering but halted due to my other projects...also included a pic what It'd look like when finished.

Will it have the dog too? :P

Should suit you quite well, big guy.

Gee thanks Peri...yes specially the back cargo bucket should be adequate to haul my carcass around. :P

And I never noticed the dog untill now lol...he's wearing doggles!

Now that's an interesting ride...... yeee haww.... Blue jeans, white t-shirt, no bra, very nice I must say :)

There is this place in Kelaniya, close to Pethiyagoda, if I am not mistaken a service station/garage on the Kaduwela road. I saw some big bad ass American trucks , parked there. They seem to be in pretty good shape...

Scouts are rare in SL.... but not as much as the others makes im guessing. Ive seen Quite a few rolling around in various states of mods. even seen a few Scout II' s. theres one in my mech's garage he is doing up.

what are really interesting though are the International harvester Travelall/Travellette & 100/200 series pickup trucks. they are way more rare than scouts & are absolute mechanical Oddball Beasts! saw one 200 series truck for sale with a nissan patrol drivetrain installed & a flatbed, nearly bald 35" TSL boggers. he was asking 1.5Mil for it IIRC.

scored meself a set of front & rear Axles from a 200 series IH truck ( they are Dana44HD fronts & Dana60 Full float rears! damn strong & pretty near indestructible!, shame most ended up as scrap iron cuz our idiots dont know its value)

sticking to the topic there's a rather well kept international on a by road of templers road. can't remember what the road is called but its the last one that goes towards sirimal uyana before keells if you are coming from the bakery junction end.

Is this truck (Ford F250) avaiable in SL and can they do this type of bodykit there?

Mate, while i'de like to help anyway i can, this thread is more focused on "OLD" trucks in SL, as said in the very 1st post.

From Colombo u pass the Kelani bridge and from Peliyagoda side you come on the Biyagama road. When u are heading towards Biyagama this place is on your right. Its not very far, but the road is under construction or something and pretty bad.

I am not too familiar with the specific name of those but they were big, . There was also a Jeep, with the star, which was used in WW 1 or 2.

Dosen't ripper him self drive a ford truck? But I assume it's a newer one.

yeah machang but mine is 98 spec.

The classical ford trucks and in general old american trucks have a nice charm on their own.

I used to love those big ass international jeeps. Have seen a nice example in hikka. yellow color one it was i think.

Very rare breed to find.

MD has a nice truck under resto... must visit the bugger one of these days with a few beers :) and take some pics :)

How about this one for a restoration project:

Interesting to note that this was made before the silly Canadians started driving on the wrong side of the road!

There's another Chevy 'SUV' that I am aware of, lying in a house in Nawala without much attention. It's a vehicle that looks a bit like the old Toyota FJ55 and its made in early 70s.

Yeah you get that here... its called the "I-stole-your-chassis" kit. I think Junkie Motors brings it down.
