Does anyone know if the following makes of cars are still running in Sri Lanka,i know they were imorted in the 1960's onwards and due to many factors (durability, breakdown, parts etc) became obscure ,I have seen the Lloyd Alexander and Fiat running in late 80's and early 90's but never after that

would be great to know if other AL members remember seeing them at one point in time or if they are still running somewhere in SL

well here goes the list

I see a large old 31 sri car which I'm sure is eastern euro, around the Rajagiriya area. Can't help but think it's a Moskvitch as well, but I've never gotten close enough to it and I can't find it on google either.

Members,

This is not according to the topic but I thought will post for the information of A/L Members.

The Hungarian buses in CTB by the name of Ikarus. But those buses failed in srilanka due to poor maintenance and not availability of engine spares.

I seen quite a number of Fiat 126 around. I tot they were made in ital just like d others until u shed light on it. Even couple of days ago I saw one in IDH junction. Dats in Gothatuwa Rajagiriya. A black one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Eastern_European_car,_unknown_model,_seen_in_Sofia,_Bulgaria_September_2005.jpg this looks like a LADA which is another variant of FIAT made in Russia i guess. I've seen lot of these around.

There's a maroon unregd/SORN Lada on the Madiwela/Kotte road. And on the night of the Colombo Night Race practices there was an 18- blue Lada wagon complete with sponsor stickers and race numbers parked near my car, on the grassy knoll opposite the Green.

Any idea if these ever made it here?

A guy i know from school's mother used to drive a blue Lada wagon (possibly the same one spotted at the races, I assume it must have been sold). So at least a few of them still survive.

Yes, I can remeber in late 80s Lada Samara was imported from Russia and advertised on newspapers.

Regarding the Trabant, Wikipedia says : "... Used Trabants would often fetch a higher price than new ones, as the former were available immediately, while the latter required the infamous long wait." sounds a lot like the Viva Elite these days.
