Repair Leather Seats

Recommended Posts

Hi Experts,

There are some scratch marks in the outer side of the driver's seat of my car. Its a leather seat, but think its not made by genuine leather. Is there any way to restore the damaged part? Any idea please..... :)

Thanks

Sometimes manufacturers use leather only on the part of the seat that you sit on, i.e. a strip down the middle of the seat, and the sides are of some synthetic material. I don't know how you can get non-leather repaired, but I suppose you could get the seat re-upholstered locally keeping the original leather strip and some locally available synthetic leather.

If its a small scratch best is to just live with it, but I Nawala Cu*hion guys go this. ( both on genuine leather and the rexine type ones)

They are little expensive but work is good, but the best material to have would be alcantra, I am sure they do seats with this material but could be costly.

Hi,

Actually the damage is in the right side (door side) of the driving seat. Think many of you have seen this kind of damages with fabric seats also. I asked Nawala Cu*hion and they said they can replace that particular part (I did not bring there the car on that day). Another thing I heard from one of my friends is, there are some ways to do something like we do a touch-up for body paint. Is it posible? Is it something similar to the thing mentioned above by MeanGreenZ28?

Would it be possible to have leather seat covers set? Nawala Cu*hion does only fabric seat covers.

Thanks

I tried the paint/ restore route with Nawala CW and the Leather Restoration place in Rajagiriya. These were beige leather seats on a 98 model Land Cruiser.

Nawala did a full paint job on a set of badly damaged and worn seats. They used a thinner based paint which lasted about 2 years (and about 45,000km) to their credit. While the job gave the seats a new look, there was a bit of an unnatural shine.

Then I took it to the place in Rajagiriya (once the cracks started to appear) who claimed to use a specialist water based process. The finish didn't last for more than 6-8 months after which you could see the layers from under the new coat of paint appear. Couldn't say if this was a problem with the process or if it happened due to the thinner based treatment which lay under.

We then took the vehicle to De@ns in Havelock Town to look at replacing certain portions of the seats (most of the front). They offered both leather and synthetic options (with the latter being considerably cheaper). Besides the cost benefit, the synthetic seemed to match the rest of the seats well and was more suitable (longer lasting than leather) being a vehicle that was used for commercial running.

They did a neat job which has lasted a good 2 year since with no one being able to tell the difference.

I'm sure Nawala can manage a similar job without any problems.

The key is to find a matching material with your upholsterer.

Hi milindu,

Thank you very much. Among the Nawala C*** and the Havelock Town places, which place do you recommend as the better one? Could you please give me the directions to the Havelock Town place?

How much those places charged for the works they did?

Thanks

Did deans do the whole seat or just the portion that needed the repair?
