Ripper
I got tnavi...The main man there used to work for Sala and over some dispute, left that place and started Tnavi From what i've been told, Tnavi offers a far superior product compared to Sala cos afaik Sala maps really arent updated or have POI's marked on them. For instance... even wine stores and pubs and stuff are marked on the tnavi map which can be quite helpful. Needless to say fuel sheds, hospitals etc etc too are on the map The live update thing is only to update traffic conditions. From my understanding, it only works if other tnavi users too are stuck in traffic. basically ur speed info is sent back to tnavi chaps over gprs/3g...they collate that info and see where slow moving traffic is and send that info to all tnavi users. I dont use this feature cos i really dont need it... So dunno how good or bad it is... You should possibly visit their shops and try out both and see what works best for you.
akboselk
Thanks Ripper yes, you re correct. I visited both agents (sales agent in kandy) and found tNavi is better than other GPS mentioned on this topic. price also little less and customer service (the way those agents provide answers for pre sales questions) of tnavi agent is satisfy than other. bagUrE
Machan there is another less-popular option DPJH SatGuide [http://www.facebook.com/gatewaytosrilanka/app_128953167177144] I have not used it; does not even know someone using it. So no idea about the performance. But their ad looks impressive. Dialog iBuy is offering a 10% discount too. FB page isn't working However "impressive ad" doesn't mean anything about a product / service quality, isn't it ?

kmeeg
Hi All, I was just searching for GPS and came across this link http://www.gpstravelmaps.com/gps-maps/asia/sri-lanka.php. Have any body tried maps from this one? Looks like their maps are supporting all garmin nuvi devices. According to their site maps are getting frequent updates too. For example the last 2 updates are Dec 2012 and then June 2013. It's good to have availability of maps for common gps devices right? Another thing i'm not sure is why do you have to use Garmin Basecamp to install the maps. Anybody has idea about Garmin Basecamp? Also please share if anybody tried this maps. Links to visit regarding this - 1. http://www.gpstravelmaps.com/gps-maps/asia/sri-lanka.php 2. http://www.gpsetravelguides.com/page/sri-lanka-gps-map.html According to this it has below benefits; • Compatible with all Garmin Units.• Instant download or have an SD card shipped.• Installs in minutes.• Contains thousands of points of interest and roads.• No expensive cellular data plan needed.• Will not delete your current Garmin GPS map.• Less expensive then renting a Garmin unit.• Turn-by-turn Garmin map directions to POIs, cities, streets, and latitude longitude.• Voice directions for all languages - English, Spanish, German, French & more. Not sure you guys are interested anymore with this topic. Saw couple of discussions for gps app for mobiles but just thought of getting some info about general gps devices. KMeeg. Better to use an extra smart phone keeping head unit for entertainments.
