0 harshansenadhir
Check the cost for re-build and compare with the price of a used one. The term reconditionned can mislead in local context. There aren't any reconditioning happenning here, it's just used japanese junk unloaded and rotting away in yards. well, if I were you, would've took the path of re-building as I'm certain that everything in it is replaced and brand new rather than buying a used one which i don't know what's inside. However, the most easiest way and cost effective would be to ram up a used (not locally used and removed) gearbox.

Tanx a lot for the info...Does the rebuild kit replace everything... solenoids and everything rather than only plates??
0 harshansenadhir
Don't know about the japanese rebuild kits. In my case, I had to buy those seperately, the pistons/hubs, solenoids, friction plates and overall packing kit.

0 jdnet
repair is only money waist. replace from Japan used one Stop talking crap you bloody idiot. How wasteful would putting a used tranny be, if it blew up in a couple of months? Even if they let you exchange it, you would still have to pay for labor, filters and fluid. 0 MIL
tanx ,good point, what should i do does rebuilding cost way too much than replacing? My opinion is then it is more economical to get a recondition one (a good one of course, with a thorough inspection). You can keep the old one to use for some spare parts when required. 0 nano31
I got my CE110 (Diesel) Autobox rebuild ~Rs25000/= while used autobox is around Rs55000 (Not to confuse with AE110 for which it is around 25000). In your case rebuilding and used box is more or less the same cost but we do not know what is inside the used box!

0 harshansenadhir
can you put cost comparison? also life time after rebuild? Doubt how the rebuild cost of an AL4 gearbox helps the situ. However, used AL4 boxes were quoted around 250,000 mark. Re-build cost including oil was less than 150k.

0 Watchman
Does this mean rebuilding may not be successful??um confused OK i'm getting sick of these people like Nilantha misleading people. If you dont beleive me look for other posts he has made and how the general community laugh at the lies he speads. Getting a used/reconditioned box has a risk. It might be a good box you get, or it might be a bad one. You dont know. But its a easier job than trying to fix your broken box. Parts sellers can nicely wash the exterior and make it look like its new, but you dont know what the condition is on the inside. It might be a box that's also on the verge of crashing soon. Or it could be a good one... So you have close your eyes and just leap. Fixing your broken box is a harder job.You need a good mechanic who knows what he's doing. Do a search on AL and you'll find a few recommended mechanics. And since you'll be buying the parts to fix it you know the internals will be in good condition after the repair. But you might not know how much the entire repair might cost because the parts you need to replace wont be knows till you take it apart. And the labour cost might vary. And the car will be out of commision for longer. So take all this into consideration, read some more on AL, get some prices of used boxes from shops talk to some mechanics and do a cost/benefit analysis for yourself. Cos in the end its not JDnet, harshan or Nilantha who's gonna foot the bill or live with that car..
