Kyron Turbo Problem

hatharasinghe

Question

Dear friends,

My cousin has a Kyron jeep and he wanted to change the engine oil and oil filter (he lives in Badulla) the nearest agent at Kandy so he went to a service center at Badulla and replace Mobil (the oil for 5000Km) but they unable to replace filter as they didnt have proper tool and tried using chain but couldnt then without replace oil filter he came out from the service centre .Now the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON and the vehical unable to pickup it moves only around 20Km/hr speed and seems TURBO is not functioning so to go nearest agent at Kandy 140Km from Badulla pls advice.

1.Is it ok to go such distance with this condition.

2.Pls help whats to be check (DIY) or atleast advice to Mechanic to check the parts.as there is no good experts as col and hard to find computer scan also.

Pls help me.

I don't think this is related to oil change.. maybe by mistake they have done something which affects a sensor or sensor reading..best thing is to get it scanned..pull out the dtc and move from their. He should not try to drive the car to Kandy not knowing what exactly wrong with it. Try calling the agents. Maybe they have experience in similar case with the same model..also you can ask them how to pull out the code manually so that you can explain them where the problem is..

how did you make sure that it's turbo. If it's the case - no harm driving it , but you get less power.

You're saying that micro service station didn't have a tool to remove the oil filter, ? seriously ?

Check the engine oil level first since they fiddle with some chain and things, possible engine oil leak .?

Not changing the filter doesn't show symptoms in this acute way, probably something wrong.

Wait somebody explains it more.

No as i told the service done at normal service station at badulla not at the MICRO agent as the nearest is at Kandy (140KM from Badulla) and he noticed and told me the turbo is not functioning anyway engine cant get speed more than 20Km/hr engine oil level is ok .

I think while the problem maybe the turbo, the problem is more likely to be the car has gone into limp home mode. This is a mode where the ECU intentionally retards engine power in order to protect it due to a fault it has found.

To figure out the fault the easiest method is to plug it to an engine scanner and scan it. But personally I'll do a visual inspection and check if all the sensor wires and connectors are intact and everything is still plugged in as it could be that somebody knocked something out trying to change the oil filter.

I agree with Don, Limp mode can do this to an engine, and your car will go to limp mode as a safety precaution due to a fault or faulty reading from a sensor which could well be a faulty sensor too. It's a bit unlikely for a Turbo to go off just like that because of an oil change unless you run the turbo without any oil in it :) ... You wouldn't loose that much power so that you cannot get the car up more than 20Kmph just because of a turbo failure. As i said before i think it's something to do with a sensors. Try to pull the DTC. That's the best and easiest way...

If it was a service, then I presume the Diesel filter was also changed? Some fitters come with a extra plastic ring around the screw (necessary for some models of vehicles but not some others).. If this redundant rung is sill on the filter might not be screwed on right and hence air getting sucked in to the diesel line.. May not be the case, but no harm checking..

And when you say the vehicle doesnt go beyond 20 is it that the engine itself doesnt rev, or that the vehicle not moving despite the engine turning as expected?

even try to acclerate engine not moving than 20 and no sign of turbo on and i'll check the diesel filter also.

I suspect this is a vacuum related problem. There are two vacuum modulator close to the oil filter. When these are blocked you feel very low the engine pulling power. If the service station tried to remove the filter without proper tools they can easily damage the wiring or the rubber hoses attached to the vacuum modulators. The two vacuum modulators control the EGR and the turbo. The Kyron does not respond to the normal scanners for some reason.
