Honda Insight Hmmf Error - Can I Use Normal Cvt Oil?

I got an error on my Insight's display screen (in Japanese) and I think I need to change my HMMF (Honda Multi Matic Fluid)

Need advice.. can I just use normal CVT oil?

If not where can I get it done except for the agents?

Bro.. Honda Insight ZE2 uses CVT Fluid. Use only Honda CVTF. NOTHING ELSE or the repercussions will be quite serious.. U can get it changed anywhere that they have the fluid in stock but i'd recommend a place that can reset the warning light after you get it done... I personally would prefer to go to the agents but there are plenty of places that specialist in hybrids such as hybrid motors, arabian motors etc but as I said before any garage that has Honda CVTF can change it for u, comes down to ur personal preference.. Capacity is almost 4L and the cost per liter is about Rs. 2,000/=

Go for agents, you get some other valuable tips also.

Go to the agents. I used to take my EK there for cvtf change. Cost was 8200/- at the time. No waiting. No funky machines.

And don't listen to that horsecrap ad on the radio which says your carmaker doesn't know which oils are good for your car.

AFAIK Honda HMMF is not available in Sri Lanka, but the equivalent of HMMF is the Honda CVTF. Got the CVTF of my Fit changed yesterday at the agents, Rs. 9100/- total cost (for 4L + labour). +1 to komisirpala about Calt*x radio ad. Isn't there some authority where citizens could complain about misleading advertising?

Funny set of ads.

First the lubricant company as saying car manufacturers don't have the technology to produce engine oils. Next day the car company's ad which says, who knows best about the oils than the manufacturer.

I think they are just talking about the engine oils. And considering the number of questions we get in this forums about using toyota oils or mobil, etc, is it any surprise that even the companies are aware of the scene and want to try and sell their products?

Are sure its 4L of CVTF? cos my Fit hybrid has the same engine as Insight not sure about the transmission.

When i went to the agent the asses tried to fill 3.5L where as the manual says 3L. After much argument they agreed to fill only 3L n at the time they filled, it showed less but after driving it was at the perfect level. Means 3.5L would have been way above the level. Guess that's a bad idea.

Conclusion : Agent workers are Robos with old books in hand. Please check manual before changing oil.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. I checked with Auto Miraj today when I serviced the car. They had Honda CVTF available and the cost they said is about 10,500/- for the job. However the guy whos doing the electronic part wasnt there today. So I think the best option is going to the Agents. Anyway I will have to pay them a visit on Monday as the Auto Miraj guys managed to break one of the wheel studs at the service..

Capacity to re-fill is not 4L, but you still have to buy 4L since it comes only in 1L bottles. Mine is a 2007 GE6 and the refill capacity is different on different YOMs ( more recent YOMs have something like 2.8L although model has not changed), and you are correct, the manual says 3L for 2007-2008 models, but based on the readings on the dipstick (after driving based on my previous change) mine needs about 3.1 - 3.2 L. However, they give you the balance so that the next time you visit, you will only need to buy 3L.

Extremely sorry that I took so long to come back. I got it done from Stafford at minimum fuss. No waiting. Cost was less than 10K.

As per them, every 40,000kms, you have to change it and when you reach 38,000 Kms, the system will indicate it.

there you go. stafford also said not to use the oil changing machine to change CVTF because the machine's suction can damage the oil seals. its more profitable for them to use the machine, because it takes more oil that way. so its a big deal for them to admit this...

Robots in factories are pefect they never faulter and work as programmed. How did you check if it's 'low' as far as i know it does not mean it's low but the oil has to be changed (not topped up) you can drive for another little bit -then take it to st****d  - they will replace the oil and reset.
