HI guys,

I wondering which would be the best 90 octane petrol from the following fuel stations.

  • IOC
  • Cepetco
  • Laugh

The reason i'm asking this because currently i'm using IOC, but in this hot whether my engine suddenly start to give a pinning when accelerating. So i wonder its really because of only the weather or the quality of the fuel which adds on to the hot weather. Please share your thoughts and experience. By the way i'm running a 1978 1.4 L Orion Mitsubishi engine.

GAP.

Im not sure about the 90 Octane petrol but the Xtra Mile diesel from IOC is much better than the normal auto diesel from Lanka

All are same... IOC and Laugfs distribute ceypetco petrol.

You must be in a dream world if u think a 1978 car doesnt develop problems that cause noises. Stop blaming the weather or petrol and show your car to a mechanic.

A friend of mine who also runs a 1982 Lancer S/W with the 1.4 Orion engine complains of the pinking/knocking and he too uses IOC 90. You can try using one of the others and see but before doing that see how good your petrol filter, air filter and plugs are.

IMO too as Crosswinds has mentioned whether it be IOC, CPC, laughs or caughs all are the same.

Well guys,

i was mentioning pinging which some ppl called a spark knock. So as Crosswinds brought up its not some other mechanical noise, well i know that this old engine do sound rough but trust me people who has newer engines in late 90s sounds rougher than me :D. I mentioned the whether because a engine can start to ping when the intake air is too hot, and it can also happen when timing is bit advance or the mixture is too lean or the octane value issues. So guys now i know that we will not see any difference is type of petrol, i will give try to Euro 3 and i will check upon my mixture and timing.

Thanks.

It could also be caused by soot which has built up on the manifold and the chamber. You can try treating this chemically or de-carbonising the engine.

Age of the engine does not matter for rough or smooth running. The original petrol engine on my 54 year old jeep runs smooth as silk!!!
