4Wd Around 2 Million

I am looking to buy a 4wd with high ground clearance for around 2 million. I found these options after reading the forum.

Nissan D21 1993

L200 1996 -1997

daihatsu terios 1999 - 2000

L200 I saw were all semi option vehicles with no power shutter etc.

I like D21 the most. But I fear because it's older. Will it be difficult to maintain? Will it be reliable?

Terios I afraid about parts availability and resale value (ease of selling)

I don't know much about vehicles.

What will be the Most reliable and easy to maintain and easy to sell out of these three.

I do not hope to use the vehicle for daily running. Short trips every weekend and long adventure trips once a month or so.

It should be fairly comfortable because I'll use it most for long trips.

Go for the Pajero io, If you are not using it everyday the low fuel economy will not be that much of a problem.

It's a newer vehicle with all the normal options

Defenders seems to be way out of my range . Anyway I found some L200s (1997, 1998 ) for around 2.2 million. 2wd cabs going for far below there 4wd counter parts. Are those have a very low demand?

Will those early 90s double cabs will give trouble at the emission test? Anybody have some experience ?

It's not the age of the vehicle that is the issue. It's by and large how it's maintaned that will see a pass or fail at the emission test.

The D21( B/N model) and the LN106 give a very bouncy ride compared to the L200.

If you are looking for a proper 4WD why do you have the Terios on your list?????

im using a 91 D21 as my daily no complaints so far lacks a bit of acceleration compared to the toyota`s maybe mine just need injectors replaced, but its less bouncy and more comfortable . Just hauled close to 600kg of rock in it last night didnt event feel it. Used a 2wd d21 from 2005 to 2011 absolute bullet proof. Only concern is check the chassis for cracks and floor boards and windscreen surrounding for rust.

just be mindful that the vehicle is still in its original state and that the chassis and engine numbers cross check with the book

Why do you say the D21 has a bouncy ride. The older 720 with its independent suspension would have been bouncy but not the D21, it was more comfortable than the LN106 by miles and maybe better than the LN107. The LN106 is bouncy because of the leaf springs.

You should be able to find a LN107 if you look around a bit, my cousin sold his (not full option) for 2.2mil a couple of weeks back and that was the best offer he had got.

Why do you say the D21 has a bouncy ride.

I was refering to the b/n export model D21. A cousin of mine has the brand new imported 1989 model which he got b/n and from day 1 I remember it was uncomfortable as uncomfortable can be giving a very jolty ride. However the off roading capability of it is just splendid.

My cousin says that it is because the export model (b/n) has a stiffer suspension and the rear has more leaf springs and can carry a heavier load than the domestic model D21 and its bouncy because of that. Even the engine is superb, now it has done in excess of 400,000kms and still the engine is all original as he maintains it meticulously.

Eventhough an old D21 (51-,54-) or LN106 would be in the region of 2m I doubt a LN107 will be in that region. Even a L200 would be over 2 for an avg condition one wouldn't it???

I decided to go for a 97-98 rav4 manual. As i got to know form forum search it does around 8kmpl in city and around 10kmpl outstation. Can anybody confirm this figure. Thanks.

I had a 97 SXA11 about 7 years ago in East Timor...I believe the fuel figures were roughly around the same...although I do remember in some areas I had to go fuel economy sucked because of the terrain and had to carry extra gasoline tanks

The vehicle came with either a 3s-fe engine (130+ hp) and a more powerful 3S-GE engine (150? 160+ hp) I think you aremore interested in the more common 3S-FE engined unit...

somethings to look out for though...

- manual RAV4 comes with a center diff lock switch (center diff lock not available with the A/T)...make sure that it works ! the electronic switching components underneath are somewhat prone to getting spoilt (which is no surprise for most electronically gimmicky SUVs of these days)

- secondly,you might hear excessive/unusual/more-than-normal tapping noises from the engine,....the 3S-FE is mounted at an inward angle of 10+ something degrees (see pic to get an idea of what I am talking about)...which made the higher side of the engine starve of oil if the oil was not topped up. The oil starvation can result in valve related problems on the upper bank/side. So as buying any vehicle get one that has been properly maintained
