Question

Hi All,

Hope you all are doing good and looking forward for the weekend :-)

There was already a thread about good tyre brands but since this is not exactly that I opened up a new one.

I'm currently using Yokohama for my ride and quite happy with them.

Is there anything better for a much greater grip out there? possibly wider?

Also is there any place I can get hold of even used set of japanese alloys? This topic was much talked about but not much when it comes to finding a used/new japanese sets.

I'm looking for something like gold ones in imprezas or similar.

I would like to hear your thoughts.

Thank you,

Best Regards,

Dushan

What's your car and what's the size you're running now? And what do you mean 'race performance'?

Assuming you're not racing, generally, Dunlops are known to be stickier but also known to wear out quicker. BFG seems to come up often when I was looking for tyres both for my Jeep and the car. Ended up buying a set for the car but can't tell you if they are any good cos I haven't used them yet.

Wider; depends on what your car manufacturer has specified for the specific alloy you would fit. There are a lot of replicas of good wheels like Volk in the market so be careful on what you get your hands on. Assuming you own an Impreza, you'd be better off finding a set off an STI or WRX I think.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks a lot for your reply. :) Appreciate it. You are absolutely right that Dunlop is more stickier but they wear out very fast as I tried Dunlop couple of times.

As far as i know that's how it should be. Correct me if i'm wrong. Performance tires have a shorter thread life. Basically Performance tires give Better grip, Less comfort, High noise & short thread life. High thread life will only given with 'All season non performance tires'. I think the best thing to do is notice the reading of the tire rather than just going for brands. I'm not sure we can complain any popular brand like Pirelli / Yokohama / Michelin / GoodYear, etc.. if we read the markings properly and select the tire to our needs.

Hope this link will help to understand;

This is just my opinion..

Adding more -

If you are really looking for a particular brand which gives good performance try - 'Pirelli pzero corsa asimmetrico' ones. They have the speed rating of 'ZR'. For Impreza 245/45ZR18 (100Y) should fit.
