Nissan Pulsar Cj1 :how To Increase Ground Clearance

Dear All,

im facing driving difficulties due to low ground clearance in my car.current OEM RIM size is 175/70 R13.

​for better ground clearance do i need to change shocks ?/Or higher tire size 195/55 R15?please advise

Wow my dad has the same car and I felt it had amazing clearance! Relative to what I drive.

You better best not mess with suspension geometry trying to "raise" your car. It's going to change the handling characteristics, and give you a positive camber with uneven tyre wear.

Maybe a change of car? Swift jeep model? A small jeep? Might be better suited to your needs

Going for 195/55 R15 won't raise the ride height. It will keep it exactly the same if its factory spec, but just make the ride a bit harsher and the handling a little better.

Changing ride height is not a great idea, unless you are going to invest in all the adjustable suspension arms etc to correct the suspension geometry afterwards.

sorry for late reply,,,All your comments are highly appreciated. why im planning increase ground clearance of my car...some time when i driving through road bumpers car engine/chassis hitting the road bumper(even with slow driving).

HI nimz my previous fb14 had 175/65/r14.(original was same as yours 13)Had no ground clearance issues even with 5 people over a bumper.But a considerable amount of road noise and harshness were introduced.If your car is getting bottom out that bad check your suspension and coil springs too.springs get weak over time.Checking your spring stiffness will be a good idea.If it's too soft go for stiff ones.

This is sort of a common problem with Nissans of this age.

my previous FB14 was scraping everywhere i go

finally got fed up and change to 14" rims with 70/175 tires and that helped alot

i travel in some very bad roads so i can say this helps

That said the down side of this is that the speedometer calibaration will be off so you will have either re calibarate (if possible) or keep in mind that your going a tiny bit faster than what your speedo is saying

175:70:14 Difference in diameter =4.4% ...but this should be +/-2.5% for better output?

yes when considering those calibrations and all its better if the difference is low. but even with this set up there were few times my car got scraped but not as much as before. so for me practicality came first
