Best Option For 3M - 3.3M

Spock

Question

Hi Guys,

I have been searching for an automatic Lancer EX for the past 2 months and seems like they are extinct. I am approaching the 3rd month vehicle less and I think now it's time for me to think of a secondary option. If I cannot find an EX within my budget in the coming month I will go for the secondary option. So I need your support to figure out the best vehicle as I had only been focusing on Lancer EX thus far. Basically following are my requirements.

Good handling and performances

Fuel consumption should be at least 9-10kmpl as i travel 50kms per day

comfortable ride

Reasonable second hand market value and should be able to sell it without much fuss

I have narrowed down my search to following options. Please give me your views, pros and cons of below models. Please do let me know if there are better options available for my price tag.

Honda Civic FD1/FD4 (Concerns about FC as people say it is around 7kmpl mark and low ground clearance)
Mazda Axela 2009/10 (Not sure about FC and my friend having 07 Axela is unable to sell it for at least 2.7M. Bought for 3M in 2013)

Axio 07/08 (Contradicts the first requirement and looks ugly)

Allion 03-05 (Too old and contradicts with the first requirement)

Rav4 pre 2005 model

Daihatsu Terrios 07/08

Suzuki Grand Vitara 07/08

Thanks in advance for your invaluable help!!!

Hi Mate,

I drive FD1 2008 brand new import. Here's my experience on your concerns...

- Good handling and performances - well balanced car returning expected honda performance

- Fuel consumption should be at least 9-10kmpl as i travel 50kms per day - 8 max in city (with smooth paddling, may return better FC if tried paddle shifting which i did not try)

- comfortable ride - Love the comfort, cant complain on ground clearance too

- Reasonable second hand market value and should be able to sell it without much fuss - always there's a good market for a well maintained FD1 (hard to find as one of my friend also looking for a one since Feb)

Overall I'm delighted with the ride, got for 3.1m from a known person (now the market varies from 3.25-3.5m)

All the best

The ASKING prices may be in that sky high range but the actual transaction prices are much lower - 2.8 Million upwards based on what I've been seeing in the market.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Thanks you guys for your help. Settled with a Lancer EX GLS 2008. Was about to buy a 2008 FD4 wen i came across this and I should say Lancer feels way better than the FD4. I dont see myself giving up the EX for an eternity :D

Congrats on finding one... I'm curious to know, in what way is the Lancer better than the FD4?

Definitely on comfort level and handling...And the high ground clearance of Lancer gives a SUV kinda feeling to me. I think its only 1 or 2 inches lower than Vezel. But again I drove only 2 FDs..So may be im being too bias towards the Lancer :)

There's a strong desire building inside me for a Lancer EX after following all the threads :speechless-smiley-004:

Our of curiosity, how much did you pay for the beast? Prices have gone up a bit it seems.

Your price is right for FD4s mate..or for a person whose looking for hacked recondition FD1s to do buying and selling..

but if u do see a well-looked after brandnew imported FD1 2008/09 for 2.8m pls share it wit me cause my friend is looking for a one for more than one month..

and "bursting the bubble" would not apply to me cause i'm not planning to sell mine so soon...

Glad to hear that you aren't planning on selling because you are likely to get quite a shock if you do. Actually the low end of the FD (non hybrid) market now seems to be hovering around the 2.6-2.7 mark and even the best cars are struggling to break 3 (actual transaction prices mind you, not seller's asking prices).

You're probably a tiny bit biased :)

Anyway, glad you like your car, at the end of the day as long as YOU are happy with it, that's all that matters!

Got it for #### mate. Unfortunately I had to go through a bayya to get it. The 1st owner had given it for ##. Knowing the price he had got it i went after the bayya and bargained like hell to get it for that price. Bugger quoted ## initially.
