Best Route From Kandy To Anuradhapura

Hi friends,

Planning to go to anuradhapura from kandy within next two weeks

I decided to go through Matale > Dambulla > Anuradapura

However someone told there is ongoing road construction in Dambulla Area.

So will there major delay, if I choose above route or What is the Best Route ?

( How about : Kandy > Kurunagala > Padeniya > Galgamuwa > Anuradhapura )

Use the A9 road, after all There are no major Repairs in Dambulla,

or either Padeniya road also a better Highway, But bit long,

Either roads are perfect,

A9 road is somewhat crowd than Padeniya Rd

Road works are on between Naula and Matale. You may experience maximum of half hour delay at the moment .

On that road I have been in Palapathwala-->Galewela stretch and Andiyagala--->Eppawala stretch. But apart from the part over the Balaluwewa/Kalawewa bund I don't feel much interested .[may be me] And roads are narrow and [ curvy on specially on Bambawa area]. And some parts with lot of potholes. Road runs through villages and sometimes you may find helmet less kids ride motor cycles on to you, Intoxicated men zig zaging in the road .... If you are really adventurous type it will be okay. Otherwise you just wanna go to Anuradhapura with minimal hassle just use A9 road.

Yes.. It is A9 road, Carpet is bit old between Naula and Dambulla. Then new carpet from Dambulla.

Road is 100% carpeted. Less traffic specially after Padeniya.

How long it will take you to reach to anuradhapura from Kandy ?

I dnt remember exactly mate. roughly 2.5 - 3 hours I guess.. (60 - 70 kmph) Anuradhapura to Padeniya is pretty predictable btw.

about 3 - 3.5 hours, depends on Traffic conditions, However you can do average 70 kmph, Road condition is brilliant
