Conversion Of A Foreign License To Sri Lankan License For Sri Lankan Citizens.

Hello, I am a holder of the Sri Lankan Passport and I am currently stationed away from Colombo and Anuradhapura where the Departments of Motor Traffic are located. I have the driving license of Saudi Arabia for all light vehicles and I would like to get the license of Sri Lanka as well.

The thing is, my Passport doesn't have my N.I.C number in it. Will that cause problems when I apply for the license. And do I have to be present in person to get the license as I find it very hard to be in Colombo during the working days.

And will I get the license for 2 wheelers as well?

Is it that you just dont have your NIC number on your passport or you dont have an NIC at all?

As far as I know you need a NIC to get the license, I think one of my distant relative tried to get it and failed to do so.

If you dont have an NIC, its better you get it soon as possible, how old are you anyway?

My cousin tried it a few months ago.

As a Sri Lankan they ask u for the NIC number. If not you need to show a valid residence visa in which case they issue you the licence on the basis that you are a foreigner.

@ OP if your a Sri Lankan then u need an NIC not jsut for drivers licence but for all other work too ,better get one its not that tough,you need to go to the local GS and get the forms and he will guide you

If you're 19 or above its bit difficult, they ask various reasons and proof why you didnt apply for NIC all these days
