There are reliable information that tax will come down

If it is so, it will be good for new car buyers. Then second hand prices will also go down.

I think taxes will go up substantially. Specially for Hybrid cars. If you look at all the business reports it status trade gap has increased. The main reason is Car imports. So government will try restrict car imports. Only way to do this Increase Taxes.

Well, you could always go with Singapore's COE path and limit the number of permits issued (thus limiting number of imports) but then knowing Sri Lankans they are going to be all up in arms and all out to over throw the government :)

Ironically, I read a long time ago that Singapore modeled the COE scheme to restrict imports based on SL's vehicle import permit framework of the early 80s.

I don't think this will work.Simple because we don't have great transport system.Which in a country like Singapore's exist. But good thing is we are working on achieving this with the help of Japan.Hope this will take of from plan's.Big hope.

The permit system should first be introduced for tuk tuks. It's good for the owners and other road users. Thank god it's already there for buses.
