What about Perodua Axia ?

2.6 mil Auto

How about Perodua's resale value Wolseley??im not going to use it more than an year or two.so i have to consider resale value too..

my friends recommended me to go for 2013 Toyota Aqua(around 3.4mil),because of toyota's resale value.

its slightly outer my budget. im soo confuse right now. :speechless-smiley-004::speechless-smiley-003:

how about 2015 Suzuki Wagon-r MH44S STINGRAY,is it worth to buy?

Aqua is good but if your priority is resale value don't go for a hybrid. After 2 years of use they depreciate faster than a regular ICE car.

Axia is a newly introduced perodua model. However earlier Viva has won some reputation here and has reasonable resale value.

As what hrm said above is very correct.

BTW I personally dont prefer underpowered 660 kei cars.

basically its like this : you CAN get a decent used non hybrid car with decent resale like a belta or a yaris (2008) but if it is Unreg you badly need then, you can only get a hybrid or a non hybrid car like axia for that price..

even car sales don't bring down anything other than hybrids now. Also a Toyota Vitz unreg MIGHT be a possibility... there was another thread a few months back on that.

The only other option as discussed in that thread i posted above at #4 is a 2013 Honda FIT (GP1) which you can get unreg.

well this is selling like hotcakes in SL but mind you its a bit underpowered and not the most comfortable vehicle. Ive been in one (actually a taxi) and while its very well put together and has lot of space its a rather plain vehicle - its a kei car after all.

Apart from the financials available, preference to unregistered (I don't know why), and the consideration for resale value in a year or two, are you seriously looking at the very basic criteria for buying a vehicle? You can find cars which can take you from point A to B at different fuel economies, comfort levels, driving pleasure, reliability, prestige (not much in this price range of course), appearance, etc. Do you know your intended monthly usage of the car? Is your fuel cost paid by your employer? Unless you identify these things and put them in the order of your priority you will never end up with a logical choice but get more and more confused with the responses you find in a forum like this. For example, if you run something like 20km a day there is no point in going for a hybrid car. Also just because it is available to you there is no point in buying a car at the maximum value you can afford particularly if you intend to sell it in two years. Try a more holistic approach rather than narrowing the criteria down to couple of things. Perhaps if you explain your situation within the scope of above things, those in the forum will be able to advise you better. Just my two cents.

If you consider resale value, please think about below points,

Cars less than 2 M has good resale value than above 2 M because of the affordable level for majority (There are enough buyers who buy Maruti Alto for 1.6 M as second hand while the company B/N price 1.525 M, because of waiting list). Now most of the people not consider about the brand but the price.

Before the WagonR Hybrid, Aqua was the cheapest Japanese car. So it was the best selling Japanese car. but after WagonR, (the cheapest Japanese car now) some trend has build up for it despite of small engine, etc.

If you go for high price car, 3 M or above, re-sale is difficult for good price because of less no of buyers despite whether the car is hybrid or non-hybrid. But even Maruti can sell for good price after 2-3 years.

No more market for old cars as government is planing to introduce road worthiness test after some age (lets hope 15 - 20 years).

Since you drive so little, a hybrid is not the best of the choices. How about a slightly used Hyundai Elantra or Kia Cerato? Those are good cars and should fit into your budget. You should able to find even a 2010/2011 Mazda Axela if it is not too old for you.

In fact just because it is unregistered that would not guarantee you a good car. You will find lot of scams in the unregistered market unless you are careful. You may read http://forum.autolanka.com/topic/17235-auction-magadiya/page-2#entry283325 but pick only wheat from the chaff. With the kind of usage you have in mind a hybrid is clearly out. Also I do not see the point in paying a premium for an unregistered car which is going to be kept parked most of the days in a month. IMO you choice should be a used car and you will have ample choice within your price range.

I've heard a lot of dumb things on AL over the years, but this might just be the top of the list.

Can you tell why this should be top of the dump list?

Any body can tell any thing (I know that, lot of seniors in the AL is thinking they are the cream of automobile in Sri Lanka :speechless-smiley-004:). But we cannot reject the reality....

That's not a logical statement. If it is a test obviously some will pass and others will fail. Those that pass the test will in fact be valued at a premium. Those that fail will go off the market. If it is a true test in fact it should add value to a 15 or 20 year old car which is still road worthy according whatever the government standard.

Actually, the statement is for old cars above 15-20 years and not for the cars less than that.

By the way, the new car trend is developing in the country since few years (without any government policy implementation) according to my observation. So, vehicles are no more appreciating asset in Sri Lanka and there is a high depreciating trend comparing with 10 years back.

@OP why exactly do you need an unreg car ? Is it because of some company allowance or something that is valid only for unreg cars? Or a clause in some loan scheme?

Or you are simply tired of the bullshit on the used car market ? (I know cos a while back -around may I was looking for a used car for around 2.5 and gave up in disgust with all the tampered odometers, open papers, and other lies)

from what i gather as it is your 1st car also why not go for something bland uncomplicated and basic ? I'd recommend (this might be an unpopular option for some) a used Toyota Yaris 2008-9 (brought brand new permit) you can find many in good condition or even a Corolla 141 (slightly bad on fuel) again b/new import try to get from first owner and not car sales ...these cars have very simple mechanics simple gear boxes and fairly bullet proof and suited for local conditions, parts aplenty and most garages can fix them.
