What to buy between 2M to 3M?

Hi All,

I'm new here. I'm looking to buy a car between 2-3 Mil (Max 3M). Following are the ones I found in that range and appreciate if you guys can help me narrow down the list. So the options I thought are as follows.

1. Mazda Demio 2008 (1300 cc)
2. Toyota Passo 2010-2012 (1000 cc)
3. Kia Picanto 2016 (1000 cc)
4. Toyota Vitz 2007-2010 (1000 cc)
5. Suzuki Swift Beetle 2008-2009 (1300 cc)

Basically I'm looking for a car with automatic transmission, hopefully not older than 10 years and does around 10 km/l (from what I've read so far all the above do somewhere around that mark, give or take. If it's more than 10, well, great :) ) and have at-least a little bit extra leg space than in an Alto or an Elite.

I'm not particularly looking for hatchbacks, but couldn't find any sedans not older than 10 years within this price range.

Can I know which one has the lowest maintenance cost after I buy it and start running day-to-day? (given that the car is in a good condition when I buy it and I maintain the same of course)

I've also being looking at Suzuki SX4 2008 (Hatchback model-1600 CC). Can anyone tell me how the fuel consumption is and maintenance costs of SX4 compared to the above list? Should I be forgetting the rest of the list and go for a SX4, though I might have to stretch the budget a bit to find a one in good condition. ;)

If you think any other make/model would best fit my requirement, please let me know as well.

Thanks everyone and appreciate any advise you experts can give. :drinks:

Thanks @Quiet what do you mean by a fun car? Appearance/features? It usually does at-least 8 km/l right?

He means its not boring to drive - i.e it has a bit of pull and yes it most likely has a few bells and whistles than the Passo for example. Demio,Swift -> fun cars    Vitz,Passo->boring cars

Swift will do about 8-10 in city. It's a really nice car the rear seats have very limited leg space tho.

Another suggestion for your list of hatchbacks : Honda FIT GE6 (Non-Hybrid) a 2009-2010 model will cost you about 3 Mil.

1.3 L engine , much much more space than any of the above options

I saw people have recommended GE6 in few threads as well, but didn't find any available to purchase within Colombo (so far only looked online). Will definitely go out there and look for this one. Thank you @matroska

BTW, between FIT GE6 & SX4, which one do you think is better?

Got it. That explains it. "has a bit of pull" -> like that one. Thanks mate!

GE6 indeed a good car to own. One of my friends have that and he absolutely love the drive. Having said that if you can find a 1300cc Vitz in good nick would give you best of the both worlds in terms of power and fuel efficiency.

ah yes i forgot to mention the 1.3 L vitz it's a bit rare to find but has plenty of pull- for the size of the vitz the 1.3 Engine is perfect.  @hrm has one and he's the best person to know

I suggested GE6 since your other options were hatches which i thought was for city use.

If you have rough roads etc the SX4's slightly higher ground clearance will be marginally helpful but mind you it's no off-roader.

overall for daily use i'd go with a GE6

Yes, it is for daily city use, not for off-road purposes. Didn't think SX4 would fit in that category anyway.

Any idea about this Picanto? Leg space aside, is it a good drive? (in case if I couldn't find any GE6)
