Hie guys

I have a 2002 manual Peugeot 406 EW engine and now i have used it to 335000km. I have tried to have it serviced religiously.

Challenge I am having with it is that its there is now power loss when i am travelling in in hilly areas where i leave. i now find it difficult to go up some and end up going down to 2nd gear where i used to go up in 3rd or 4th (at times). when i rev it, it feels like there is flat spot as in it takes a a second or 2 to rev and its taking too long to rev. its also idling at very low revs below 1000rpm. when i do a change down, it struggles to go and jerks a bit for the first second or 2 when the gear is engaged the picks up but still doesnt have that much power. on take off, on some occassions, it moves really slow and picks up speed after a second or 2 which I am assuming is that flat spot also. when u are on a highway or normal driving it still drives well.

also i have an engine check light on and the error Anti Pollution Fault displays. this started after i assisted someone who needed a jump start and it has not gone away since.

Hi and welcome to AL,..

The check engine light comes to do the same,..change the air filter, check the ecu with a scanner,.

Clear the fault codes and do the required maintenance,..

Cheers,

TT.

The 'Anti pollution fault' is the most common error message in Peugeots.

However, this sounds like a a faulty ignition coil or a plug wire. Did you get the ignition system checked? Has the petrol consumption increased or decreased?

the petrol consumption at one time decreased to 6.9/100 and now it has been on the rise and now its at 7.9/100 within the last 3 months. I havent had the ignition system checked but will do so.

Anti pollution fault in these Peugeot’s are common most related to ignition coils as crosswind said. However you might want to check the oxygen sensor. Some models might have two , upstream (top of the manifold ) and one downstream ( after the cat ). Don’t know if the 406 came with a electric throttle unit , if so might want to check that as well.
