Well Fiat already gets 180bhp from the same engine for the GP Abarth. So I guess 220 must be the absolute limit(The Mito GTA will have a 1.8 TT engine giving 230bhp). I really have not read why Marangoni did this. Nowhere does it say that this will be offerd for sale. So perhaps its a dip of their feet in the pool. Must be to check if "ricers" dig it Red tyre smoke...... a bit gay I would say....... On the other hand some might think its time for change from Henry Ford's favourite hue... About that tasteless folk heh heh Alfa is a more sophisticated brand compared to Abarth which is a more hardcore 'tuner' kind of brand. There's quite a price difference as well. But obviously there will be some overlap. The Mito's main rival is the Mini and the upcoming Audi A1. But it's priced low enough for someone who's thinking of a Renualt or Honda to also consider it. Well 22,000 Mitos have been sold already. So it's off to a flying start! Rhd still not in swing mind you. Both the Mito and the Mini don't look that great Imo. A case of trying too hard. But I prefer the Mito (but then I would wouldn't I ?) Fiat have shown how to do small sporty cars with the 500 Abarth. From all the reviews read so far the pros and cons are, Mito - Looks fresher than the Mini, Better engines, More bhp per $ (big difference here), No steering feel (Shame as this is something that's embedded in Alfa DNA). Mini - Better steering, BMW reputation, Better ride comfort. The over-riding factor however is the price/value factor, Here's a comparison of UK prices, Mini Cooper Chilli - 15,340 pounds and 118bhp Alfa Romeo Mito 1.4TB Lusso - 14,175 pounds and 153bhp I think that difference is significant enough to draw buyers away from the Mini dealers especially in these times. MasterDon
looks like the the funky small car market will be overcrowded soon...interesting to see if the MINI will hold it's ground as the king in that category....i think it will here's audi's rumoured MINI destroyer, the A1..due to be out in 2010

Devinda_Z
New Alfa GTA 240bhp Alfa Mito GTA hot hatch at Geneva; to rival Mini JCW By Stephen Dobie 22nd January 2009 The GTA badge will be back at Geneva. Alfa Romeo will unveil the hottest Mito, and it won’t just be a spiced-up concept. It will be the production Mito GTA, complete with a 1.8-litre direct injection turbo engine. That means 240bhp, a chunky 32bhp hike over its most direct rival, the Mini John Cooper Works. It means the Mito will be able to hit 150mph, while clearing 0-60 in 6.2sec approx. Both figures are a sliver better than the JCW. Whether the Alfa offers the great, old-school fun of the Mini behind the wheel remains to be seen. It uses the same tech as the regular Mito hatchback, meaning the DNA dynamics trickery is standard while the electronic Q2 differential system should have a good go of channelling all those horses through the front wheels, a problem that afflicted the 247bhp 147 GTA. Expect it do undercut the Mini JCW, priced at £19-20k. Speaking of the 147, the next model – due by next year – will be five-door only, with the Mito perhaps seen as the new compact three-door Alfa of choice. A design chief at Alfa Romeo has also said that the brand’s design direction is set to become more focused, and move away from the aggression of the 159 and Brera and become more sinuous, although future models won’t be in the same vein as the 8C supercar and the Mito it’s inspired. Four new cars have been signed off apparently, and after the Mito GTA is seen at Geneva expect a drip-feed of new models and concepts from the Italians Source : http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/233690/new_alfa_gta.html
