Check for leaks. Also check the charcoal canister.

Also...when you say a tune up was done the proper way...what exactly does that mean?

Did this (petrol smell) start happening after the tune up ? or was it there before the tune up ? If the tune up was done after the petrol smell started coming did the people who did the tune up find anything strange/wrong ?
