Porsche 944

the price you quoted on the burgandy boxter couldn't have been recently..coz as of late they were asking for a much higher price...

it was off Hospital Rd - Kalubowila - closer to Kohuwala

it was anywhere between August to November - my memory fails me in terms of a exact date

I own the Red (formerly white) 1989 model 944 S2. The car is currently undergoing restoration.

The mechanical issues with the car were direct result of local improvisation.

Nothing that was too difficult to rectify once proper replacement parts were sourced.

The shoddy LHD to RHD conversion is what prompted a total resto.

Once again due to local improv and dubious workmanship.

That too has been corrected with original RHD spec parts.

As for the allegations of heavy corrosion, there was hardly any.

That's thanks to Porsche hot-dip galvanizing bodies even way back then.

Came across a bit in the areas that were exposed by the earlier RHD conversion.

Hopefully car will be back on the road early March.

AFAIK this is the only 944 in SL. Here's a rough count of Porsche in SL, that i know of.

If anyone has additional info please do share.

'54 pre-A 356 - Silver (Musty Weerasinghe)

'69 911S - Black (Upali D)

'70s 924 - Gold/orange (Kamal group - Kelaniya)

'79 924 - Red (Dr. Mendis, 944 body kit, recent import, unreg)

'82? 928S - Light Blue metallic (LHD, import from kuwait)

'89 944 S2 - Red ( mine, RHD convert, French import)

'89 928 S4 - Blue (RHD convert, Upali D)

'92? 911 (964) - RED, (LHD was raced by Dilantha M)

'93 928 GTS auto - Metallic Lilac (Tony, 5.4 V8, 330 bhp)

and since establishment of local dealer in '96:

(986) Boxster - 6 or 7?

(986) Boxster S - Black

911 (993) Cabrio - Red

911 (993) Targa - Yellow (Arthur S)

911 (996) Cabrio - Champagne (Dinal P)

911 (996) Cabrio - metallic Red/burgandy (Gemballa tuned, Upali D)

(987) Boxster S - Silver (kalutota?)

Cayenne - 5 or 6 ?

Cayman S - Red

re. Red 993 Cabrio, I believe it was last on sale at 10.5 or 11 mil.

re. Burg/Maroon 986 Boxter at 4 mil, that low price is an anomaly due to the car having being crashed twice.

re. 924 for sale, For those interested in picking up a 924, I would say go for it if the price is bearable.

Parts are not going to be a problem for anyone familiar with eBay.

There's plenty of technical help online.

If the stock Audi sourced 2.0 N/A is not going to cut it, its fairly straightforward to drop a 2.5liter Turbo engine and drivetrain from the 944Turbo:

stock 250bhp, easily tuneable to over 300 bhp...

Phew! What a comprehensive and interesting post! Thanks!

I've seen all except the 928 S4!

I'll have to stay dreaming about the 993 cabrio a bit longer I guess :)

lol - maybe u can try swapping the 500SEC + cash

but all Sri Lanka needs is 911 GT3 RS or RüF Yellow bird to make its Párté :)

but é only Porsche i'd be dreaming of is 959 Sport....waste of a dream...but it'll be a sweet one

Handling is supposed to be good - n well balanced - regardless of the enigne position

but 4mil is good machang - besides if anyone wants a Porsche of "decent" money then thats the only Affordable one out there!

also it a 98/99 model so not too old also....

....but if theres been chassis damage i can feel the chassi flex comming on once u power through a few corners! :o lol

Boxster S - kalutota - yup I can confirm this. The kid drives/drove it to school.

Also I think Feroz Omar owns the purple 911 (996) cab.

Also doesnt Arthur S have a Cayenne as well ?

never seen a blue boster out here...

ah right - this is the Black Cedia or Lancer which he'd done upto evo 7 spec but running some parts off the Evo8 - was this the one@é AL HONDA meet next to Andrew's skyline?

i'm sure of the blue boxster but don't know whose it is...

it's an original evo 7 onto which he's fitted the evo 9 kit, rollcage etc :D

is it tru that his CLS experienced somekind of Electronic Brake Distribution failiure.... (its all fly-by-wire on that car ya)

God I hope not. I had the truely terrifying experience of hitting the brakes and checking my rearview only to see a black CLS suddenly growing larger and larger in my mirror. Quite aside from the fact that that huge car would probably squash my little toy, the bumper probably costs more than my entire car! :D

Oh, he stopped, obviously. Them wide-ass tires and HUGE brakes

  • 1 year later...

Guys,

The 69 911s you mention, was it bought by the gentleman who owns it now from a guy who imported it from the uk in the 80's, it was in a poor state when I last saw it in his garage near Pita Kotte in 1993. It used to be a lovely car lovingly looked after during the early 80's, I have worked on it many times, would love to see it again some day! I was told it had a very unique engine number

Has it been restored?

Maheths Evo is an original Evo 7 that was blue and brought down by ########...he converted the car to look like the Evo 9 and painted it black and now is red...gorgeous car to say the least and very well looked after..Maheths cousin shehan owned the said boxster but sold it awhile back and now has the black STi 9...i must say that both of them are extremely down to earth and wonderful people and easy to talk to...i have videos on youtube of my skyline, the lotus and the Evo having fun...check my link at the bottom if ur interested...as for his Mercs they are awesome and one way to distinguish any kalutota car is by their number plates which all end in 2828... hope that helps....
