that looks disasterous!!! :(

the hatch looks like a spiced up Mazda Fastback with aero parts

the front end looks like it was crafted outta butter and then had someone pour hot water over it to melt it into the infernal piece of plastic that forms the light n grill

this is truly a sad plight for subaru :( ....dare i say this, but the new Imp looks like its ready to contest the ssangyong Rodius for the title of the worlds ugliest car!!!! <_<

there really isnt anything right abt this car - look at those side skirts - almost like the designers pulled it straight off a Suzuki Liana and glued it on! :o

Subaru goes Diesel!!

IPB Image

"The world's first horizontally-opposed turbodiesel engine - better known as the "boxer" format - is introduced by Subaru.

It will be Subaru's first ever production oil-burner, and is desperately needed in Europe to complete with rivals who have been offering diesel for years. Boxer gas engines have always been a Subaru staple. They're more compact than in-line and vee units, providing a lower center of gravity and hopefully better handling through the corners.

Details of which of the current Subaru lineup will get the engine have yet to be revealed, but sources say the cars will arrive in showrooms in around 12 months."

machan any ideas about a rough power output on the new engines?

Most think Diesel cars are no match for petrol cars bt BMW prove everyone is wrong abt Diesel Engines, Cus the new M5 Desel car is seconds slower than the petrol one

And what bmw did they fixed 2 Turbos, one small one for low Rpm and another bit big one for High Rpm

The design of the horizontally-opposed engine has a myriad of benefits. One of the most common is its compact design, which allows the center of gravity to be lower in the host vehicle. Additionally, since the boxer's pistons cancel out much of the vibration, the rotational balance is second to none. Both of these advantages will lend themselves to the advent of the first boxer diesel, which will find a home within a variety of Subaru models in Europe and possible even here in the States.

Hiroyuki Ikeda, Subaru Europe's President, announced at the Paris Motor Show that the development of the H4 turbo-diesel boxer is almost complete. The design, pictured above, reveals two interesting tidbits: first, the turbo, which is traditionally housed towards the passenger side firewall on most Subarus, will be moved south of the crankshaft to retain the boxer's low center of gravity. Second, the new DOHC diesel will be outfitted with a timing chain, currently only seen on Subaru's H6 engines, and will be the first H4 so equipped.

If one of Subie's diesels does make it to this continent, expect it to reside under the hood of the new Forester.

The "SUBARU BOXER TURBO DIESEL" engine, which will be introduced into the European market, takes advantage of the inherent superiority of Horizontally -Opposed engines, such as high rigidity and low noise and vibration, resulting in no need of a balancer shaft. In addition, it has also realized compact design, which stands on a par with the Subaru Horizontally-Opposed gasoline engine of the same displacement.

This "SUBARU BOXER TURBO DIESEL" engine will be mounted on Subaru's proprietary symmetrical AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system as in the case of the gasoline unit. In order to highlight the advantages coming from the combination of the torquey diesel engine and the great traction obtained through the SUBARU Symmetrical AWD system, this engine will be on display coupled with the drivetrain.

The vehicles fitted with the "SUBARU BOXER TURBO DIESEL" engines are slated to hit the European market in 2008.

M5 diesel? Are you referring to that one Top gear episode? I believe that was a 530 or 535 or something..they definitely do NOT make a diesel M5!

But yeah, diesel engines are underrated because of the old mentality that they're noisy, boring old junkers...the technology has come a long way..they can put out a lot more torque than a petrol engine, are more fuel efficient, and not noisy like they used to be..so there definitely is a big future for diesel power!

Surprisingly most makes which did not come in Diesel for the last decades now turns into diesel like the Civic and now to Subaru
