Kia Sorento 2011/12 or Prado 1998

Hi guys, currently I drive a Premio 2013 model. Planning for a SUV for same price range. (9-10mil)

What would be your suggestion out of these two. (1998 Prado or 2011 Sorento)

Monthly ride around 1200km.

Main concerns are easy maintenance and Comfort. And 7 seater would be preferred.

Like to know real world fuel figures also. Heard Sorento doing 12kmpl in city and morethan 16kmpl in outstation. So my first choice is Sorento. But durability is a concern. After 2-3 years which will be having the better market?

Or any other option for the price.

Thanks in advance.

One car is a proper 4x4 the other a crossover. The Prado being a body on frame car will feel a bit bouncier on the open road against the Sorento which would feel more like a car.

It is sad that in Sri Lankan people think more about selling the car off even before buying it...but..since you asked...the Toyota will hold better value.

If you said 1998 Prado you are looking at  J90 series Prado...it is quite an old platform but is quite sturdy and robust. Being 20 years older than the Sorento, the Prado will definitely have lesser safety equipment and accessories/features than the Sorento.

The 2.7L (3RZ..old fashioned and later replaced by the 2TR) petrol is not too bad in the J90 (the 2.7L 2TR in in the J120 and J150 Prados is horrid) the better choice would be the diesel.

Just buy a Sorento.

The Sorento is a more recent model with potentially better fuel efficiency, which is a plus for your monthly 1200km rides. However, you mentioned concerns about durability, so it's essential to research maintenance records and reviews to assess long-term reliability. The Prado, being a Toyota, is known for its robust build and durability. It might have slightly higher maintenance costs, but it's often a safe bet when it comes to longevity.Checking Car news India can provide you with valuable insights into these models and other options within your price range. Also, consider test-driving both vehicles and getting them inspected by a mechanic before making a decision.
