Touch-up Paints - Bmw

MSP0RT5

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Had the unfortunate incident today of having someone's kid open their door into the passenger door on the E39 :( it flicked off a bit of paint which is really a pain. a smallish dent I could've lived with...

I can repair these things myself generally, but can anyone recommend where I can get some touch up paint for the car? Also need some 1000 and 1500 grit sand paper. Alternatively, are there any paint touch up specialists available in SL? In aussie there are guys that come in a van and do a very good job of fixing such things. I've already spoken to Milroy but he said he'll have to send the car to someone else to paint it. I'd rather not paint the entire door, colour matching and all...

TIA!

Chris

depends machang, sometimes a scratch can be wiped off from a bit of braso etc. But the issue is whats your color? My one is white so paint mixing is no such a deal

do u mind posting a pic of the damage? is it a scratch or mostly a dent? also, what's the color code? I might be able to find the touchup paint, but it proly wont match a faded paint.

contact the dealers machan they might have touch up paint for your car. If you bought the car brand new refer the owners manual exterior care section. It might tell you whether you can obtain some touch up paint from the dealers.

Thanks for the replies guys. Car was bought new from prestige, i think that might be the best bet, or at least get a part # and get it down from Aus/Sing. I'll post a pic, was thinking of that earlier but was too lazy to take the car out of the garage. ;) Re Brasso, the chip is to deep for that unfortunately :( Paint isn't faded, I've hardly used the car since I've been o/s which makes this whole thing even more frustrating as everything was in really good shape!! These things happen.. I think best course of action is to show Milroy first and then get his opinion/advice on it. Nothing worse than messing it up further!!

OT.. but I was just returning home from cinnamon grand, along green path, two guys in rain coats jumped out and flagged me down, asked for my licence.. this wasn't at the usual check point but closer to the flower rd lights, outside a house. I just gave my licence and then they wanted to check the girls passports (we have a couple of friends here from aus). I was thinking these guys had no visual id or anything.. what's the situ here for things like that? I figured best not to ask THEM for id, just cooperate and move along, but no street lights tonight either, it was all a bit not right.. if u know what i mean? I also thought it was strange they didn't ask me for any id, or my friend in the passenger seat!

Whoa sounds shady man. You really don't need to stop for anyone unless they are in uniform and have a check point set up (even mobile check points have to be clearly marked). If this happens again I'd just ignore the buggers and and drive by to the nearest police check point to report the incident.

machan very metallic with a slight pearl.. hence i dont want to go out and get it done by just anyone! I've done this sort of work myself before when I was at uni, used to help out at panel shop in the holidays, but i dont know if i can find all the right stuff I need here in SL! If I can get some one to pre-mix the paint for me, then no issue.

I'll check the paint code.. when milroy saw the car at the last service (first time i went to him), he said this wasn't a normal e39 colour and was only put on the lst few produced before the e60 came out. Mine is a late 03 build, with factory sport interior. I *think* the colour might be Khalahari beige, but don't quote me on that, I'll check the paint codes tomorrow and confirm.

The thought crossed my mind.. just to floor it :) since theres no red lights at this time anyway.. but wasn't sure if they had a gun or something under the coat either.. can never take a chance nowadays!! next time I'll report it to the nearest station just in case. it's a bit late now, the guys would be long gone I guess. I did notice all day today though a lot of army fellows stopping people for random checks, but there was always a guy with a "stop" sign. no street lights all over the place tonight either.. shady indeed.

The situ here in Colombo is not good its more like a Latin American country, yes its very dogdy and shady that they stopped you like that, but you were wise not to floor the accelerator man,coz if they were armed they could have taken pot shots at u!

if anyhting like that happens then best thing is to not challenge them coorporate and then go to the closest cop shop

Its good that you stopped the car man. sometimes they do random checks. Situ here isn't very good and you dont want to take a chance do you?

Police guys here are manner less. the best thing you can do is smile and cooperate a bit. the more attitiude you give the more troubles you get. trust me on this once a traffic police guy stopped me and i wasnt even in a good mood either  so got a bit angry and ended up getting an extra ticket for having a loud exhaust. specially if army guys try to stop you please stop otherwise...:violent-smiley-030:..........

but honestly the Army & Airforce guys are really curtious! :) even normal cops aren't that bad - but cant say the same for the City Traffic blokes! <_<

given that they have to stand out either in the rain or blazing sun,its hardly suprsing that more often than not, they are on a short fuse as well

best thing to do is to step outta the car , smile - pop the trunk - invite them to check throughly and you'll find that they don't even ask questions then - afteral, whats to fuss abt if one has nothing to hide

but interms of that check point - there usually is a small be it a mobile unit (push bikes) along that stretch of road as the education dept zonal office,UGC,some consulate as well as the mayors residence are in that vicinty...

The best thing to do is swithc on your interior lights when you drive in the nights then they intend to not to stop you for checkups. I always switch on the interior lights when im close to a check point and they dont stop

Yep, exactly what I did. I'm not against the checks, I agree that they're just doing their job and in turn keeping all of us safe, risking their own lives of course. This was just weird as normally there are at least 3 or 4 guys there and a "stop" sign or even a torch! Anyway, glad I stopped :-) had myself, the mrs and a couple of aussie friends in the car too so you don't want to take those sort of chances. Last night was unusually dark with no street lights either but just saw something in today's Times about extra security over Avuruda, so might explain it :-)

I got stopped at the sarannakara rd check point a few weeks back and initially they asked me for SL ID.. of course I don't have any, having lived o/s all my life.. and only just come back.. but i showed them my passport, aus drivers licence etc and they eased up a bit and started a general chit chat for about 5 mins!! of course they would've guessed i wasn't lying with my singrish and slight accent :)

ha! I didn't see that in the forum rules? :D

j/k

I checked the paint code today, it's "481" Kalahari Beige Metallic. Only seems to have come in the facelifted E39's, and only the 03 models from what I could find on google.. prior to this there was the Sahara beige metallic". I'll get a pic of the scratch one of these days, busy with some visitors from oz atm. In the meantime, here's a pic of the car soon after I bought it in 05. The pic was taken b4 it was detailed etc... so don't judge it :-)

Plans are to keep the wheels, maybe lower it another 1" and fit the original M Sport kit. The agents said it was ordered without due to the ride height and colombo roads. I guess for the general public, it's better without it...

cheers

whats to judge - an the lines of an E39 make it hard to say anything beside something complementery! :D

M Kit is a brilliant idea! will make it look quite distinct!

but imo, lowering it is not a bright idea machan - given the inconsistancy in the hight and approach angles on some speed bumps along with the rather gutted state of the roads, regardless of the area the vehicle will travel in,it may not be the best thing to do

you also run the risk of scraping the belly :(

about the alloys - they're nice - but if your gonna get the M kit why not go in for the M alloys as well?

I would reconsider lowering it if I were u. I cant stand the sick feeling in my stomach every time I go over a bump and feel the thud. I have been hit going over diagonally (one wheel at a time). Atleast in the US, bumps heights on public roads are regulated but its anyone's guess in private lots (apartments, shopping malls etc). though the sports pkg makes u feel like the car is on rails at 100mph, it comes at a very heavy price. About a month ago, I went over a drop and hit the tranny longitudinally. to make a long story short, its still in the shop. All the major components are fixed just getting the cosmetics done.

other than that, love the color on ur car. M wheels would look nice but not without the Mtech bumpers. what engine does it have? and what type of a cooling fan does it come with? mech/electrical?

I know.. I had 18's plus apexi suspension on my S15 and it drove me nuts :-) that's why I thought just an 1" all round would be just nice aesthetically. It's the 525i M52 i believe? It's a 2003 late build. Not sure if its a elec or mech fan.

I might :-) never say never.. it's all just thoughts at this stage, quite happy with the car as a whole now. I'm over my mod days: (http://bluerex.i8.com)

Hi guyz,

Would a touch up suffice for this. Teeth marks of my dog

You can fill all those marks up with paint, but it will still be visible upon close inspection because they're deep and have penetrated primer layer into the plastic.

For a neater job, you'd have to sand those burs down, use a bit of glazing putty, wet sand it and then paint over it.

Also, get your dog a (less expensive) toy to keep munching. :)
