Hello fellow aviators,

my only prospects there was just Sri lankan airlines. Any news about Mihin air?

Glad to hear there are other's in Aviation at Autolanka, we are a growing breed. ;)

Miniace, what do you do bro?

Hi Blazin!

Im into many fields of aviation ,including flying both Fixed wing and rotory wing.

Mihin Air wet leased a A320-200 from AirUK under the operators license of another existing domestic operator.Initailly crew is on wet basis and plans for a fleet expansion with dry leased aircraft from Airbus Industries. But Mihin is yet to obtain an indipendent operators license from DGCA SL. :)

Keep your CV ready.Mihin is hunting for type rated (ICAO typeII) engineers.

Hey maliths, yea I am at R-R, there isn't much in Derby apart from R-R and Toyota. My dream is to get in to F1. But that seems to be a bit far away at the moment.

What type of specialist vehicles are you involved in?

Hey,

well i work for a company in mid wales. We manufacture mainly launch and recovery vehicles for the RNLI for lifeboats. They are semi submursible tracked and wheeled machines. quite big pieces of kit. how long have u been at RR. Man i would love to go into F1 but it is a faaaaaar away drea ;) although i wouldnt mind automotive but there isnt much of that in the uk now since lots of people are closing and moving away.

So you are pilot uh? Thats good stuff, Sri lanka needs a low cost carrier independent to Sri lankan airlines. It'll make air travel more affordable to the middle class Sri lankan. Asia has only started catching on to the low cost concept lately.

A320s are pretty good, I was at the Airbus assembly lines couple of months ago in Toulouse. I got to see the assembly of A320s,A330s, A340s and A380s. Man, the A380 assembly line is out of this world! Its the biggest assembly line in Europe, there were about five A380s being assembled when I went. Their whole operation is just unbeleivable.

Its a good move to lease from Airbus, you can get good discounts these days because of the A380 problems they've been having and after they got over taken by Boeing last year for aircraft orders.

Cool man, it sounds you are into your marine stuff? But I would be able to put up with living in Wales, Derby is bad enough! Plus there are way too many sheep there.

I've been working at RR for about one and a half years. Joined in 2005 after Uni.

The whole of manufacturing in the UK is going down, the labour is too expensive man. Only the specialist places remain.

well well well it's good to see this many in the aviation field... blazin/miniace i work for a company called AmSafe Bridport... i'm based in SL but the head office and main manufacturing site is in Dorset, UK... we manufacture aircraft cargo restraints for commercial and military aircraft... but i'm in the defense department so we do a little more than restraints including camouflages, HUSLE nets, slings etc...

blazin i'm an engineer too!!! and i did a year at the asian avaition centre too!!! but i wasn't too happy with the lecturing so i transferred immediately... graduated in 2004!

(p.s. we do spike strips too called X-nets :D)

Machan Sharkster I happened to evaluate a Helicopter Under Slung Load Equipment (HUSLE) net of 7000 or 7500kg load for the Mi-17V5 helis recently supplied by a reputed company as a local agent without power of attorney from AmSafe Bridport .Damn I didnt know SL has a company representing AmSafe Bridport !!!! The cargo sling doesnt match the Russian transmission underslung hooks!! Very expensive too! What did you mean by Camouflage?? what products?

When did you follow the course @ AAC? I had lots of friends there.I was there @ Ratmalana (another company) during 92-95.Im glad you too are into aviation!

the company IS AmSafe Bridport... a fully fledged branch :( all the hierarchy were transferred from the UK office... who is this local agent?

camouflage as in vegetation, desert and snow camo concealment (infra red and radar repellant) for vehicles, equipment, etc... i'm currently working on a project for the pakistan MoD... unfortunately pakistan and india are very hard markets to get into cos of a lot of greasing of palms if you know what i mean :( the UK used to also manufacture aircraft arrestor nets for crash landings etc...

i was at AAC from 2001-2002...

speaking of helicopters... a new potential project came up with the Eurocopter NH90... but that's on hold cos apparently the helicopter is already giving trouble :D

DCA Sri Lanka approved three budget airliners, namely Deccan Aviation,Holiday Air and Expo Aviation.

Deccan is on idle, Expo gave away the license to another company???, Holiday Air is still hunting for aircrafts(B737s/A320s) .The deadline to operate the first flight for all three companies expired on October last year! DCA is yet to re-award the license. All of a sudden MihinAir is going ahead without a proper budget and proper approvals. So the budget airliners for locals are still a concept!

No proper local agent I guess. Its either Delta Enterprises or Access/ Hornet LTD.Delta is the supplier for BAMBI buckets for The Airforce helis I guess.

The NH90 development has secured more than 700 firm orders and about 100 options for 15 countries and 24 armed forces .Deliveries started late last year so Amsafe is safe :( .

machan i know orders have been secured... but it's as of late that problems have been surfacing... you know how issues can arise after a product is sold... i got word from the hierarchy to put the project on hold because of this...

Sharkster, good to hear you an aero engineer too. I only did that one week holiday course at Ratmalana man, after A-levels. Then did my degree at UMIST in Manchester, I graduated in 2004 as well! Did you know Mini Olluwa at the Asian Avaition Centre? He was there as well. So what military aircrafts do you make equipment for? Any of the fighters like Euro fighter or JSF? I tried to get on the engines for the JSF man, but couldn't get security clearance! :D

haha thanks machan but i don't think the bosses are too keen on the indians right now but i can put the idea across... and due to security reasons we don't supply anything to the local forces... else we'd become a target...

btw there's an airshow in india next week... we've got a stall there so if you happen to pass by drop in and say hello :D well i won't be there but it doesn't hurt :(

Machan the rule exists that aircrafts imported should be within 15 years of manufacture. This is where Holidayair ran into trouble.Thats the reason they are switching to A320s.Post '91 B737s are damn expensive.

Serious?? Thats crazy! Its a small world man. I did Aerospace and graduated in Sept 2005. We must have been at the same department, you were in George Begg right? I've still got a lot of mates there so i'm in Manchester almost every weekend, we should hook up man, drop me a mail: [email protected].

Right, I see. So its a bit like the 3 year rule for importing used cars. I guess it makes sense, because aircrafts are designed to have a life time of 20 years. We don't want old ass aircrafts flying around Sri lanka.

well honestly thats a kind of a disturbing regulation for the up coming operators! The price of a 15 year old B737 is twice the market value of a 20 year old one.
