Hi,

did'nt you have any other option rather than thinking of an korean automobile. well there's a friend of mine who uses one who almost curses it every day. It is a 2001 YOM and a 1500cc auto. The fuel consumption is around 7 kmpl which is equalent to a bigger luxury car.

Well spares are'nt a problem b'caus most of the ford and mazda engine parts are compatible. You also may find some errors with the automatic gears .

You could easily fetch one for about 1000000 - 1100000 . Paying any thing more than that is an utter waste.

Advise you to go in for a japanies , starlet / march / AE100 / FB 14 / Lancer Ck 1 which are more reliable have a resale value and fuel efficient.

Regds,

Dharshan

I'd say kia rio is an excellent car @ a bargain price. I have a 2001 auto sedan which does around 10-11km/ltr. Maintenance is equivalent to any other Jap car. Mostly i prefer the interior dash and aero dynamic exterior over boxed old cars (FB14 etc) at the same price range or higher. Parts seems cheaper to me, i bought a brand new headlight for around 13.5k which sounds reasonable. Always try to avoid cars which are more than 8 years old. Well.. once i parked my car next to my friends old sprinter which looked crappy and outdated.

My opinion about hatches!

I had a bad experience among my foolish relatives who are car illiterate. My old car was an indian hatch (Suzuki zen 2006). Most of them estimate it's value as 7 lakhs or less. This made me go for a sedan (kia rio) which has the appearance to impress anyone and most of the illiterate people guess it costs more than 15 lakhs. And believe it or not some even thought it was way over 2 million. This applies to most of the sri lankans who doesn't even know the difference between jap and korean. Imagine some one riding march with their family to a wedding house or a newly wed couple going in a nissan march <_<

Finally i say kia rio rocks over 10 year old japanese keys which lacks many key features such as p/w, p/m, abs etc but be careful when selecting colors. Dare buy a goma green car which really stinks. I saw a couple of them in AL classifieds too. Silver color should look luxurious & professional. Make use of our foolish lankan market where damn old option less cars like FB14 etc costs higher than a kia. Get the best deal on a full/o kia and drive like a king :D if someone says that you could have gone for an old march rather than a korean car just take your car and park it right next to that tiny little takaran jelly bean mr.bean shit bucket. He will regret about his statement. ;)

I wish you all the best on selecting your new ride. Have a nice day!

driving like a king in a kia . . . . . ooohh shit . . . . !!

i am laughing form my other side !

My friend , the water is deeper than you what you see. . Its your money , your call . I shared my experience about KIA from a friends feedback. I have been using japanies models right from the start. For a person who changed from an indian ZEN to a Korean Kia may sound that its heaven.

adios & amigo !

D.nigo........... !

i agree about our foolish sl market, but in the context of being able to get a stellar deal on a used cefiro as opposed to a corolla 121. i've driven a few korean cars like the sonata and have not been impressed even though they look and feel luxurious. they seem to age a lot quicker on our horrid roads than the jap cars to me.

yes you do have a point about the fact that kias are super value when compared to jap cars of the same age, but the reality is that the jap cars are rather better put together than cars such as the rio...... i've been in a few, and the general quality of build and materials are just about comparable to 80's nissan Marches and the like... DEFINITELY a league below the jap cars of similar size and price..... and leonardo made a very good point when he said korean cars end up looking old before their time.... this is a result of the build quality and general solidity of jap cars.......

how much DID you spend on the rio? about 1.2? no argument that it represents superb value at that price..... but that said, in that price bracket, if it was my money i'd be searching for a BMW e34 or 36.... but thats just me...
